The new spam on the front page in the navigation frame is making navigating collarme.com almost impossible. The page constantly hangs on "waiting for 4.adbrite.com". Page loading times are pretty bleak.

I think you don't have a clear understanding of what spam is. FWIW, I'm not seeing any loading problems.

First off, it is not SPAM it is an ad. It is a free site and they have every right to generate income however they choose. Complaining about it won't make it go away. Someone has to pay the bills so if the page takes a couple of seconds to load you are going to have to learn to deal with it. Remember, the owners of this site are giving it to you, they are not asking you to pay for it and they very well could do that. If you want the ads to go away, donate a large sum of cash to collarme so they don't need the ads. Just a thought.

It is true that we have started taking advertising and this has been necessitated by the strong growth of the site and will, additionally, allow us to add some exciting new features. However, we are very concerned to hear that the text ads from Adbrite might be slowing down the site for some users. Therefore, we would like to hear from anyone else who is having any noticeable slowdowns due to these ads (preferably through support). If it turns out that this is more than an isolated problem we will promptly take corrective action.

RavenMuse -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/23/2006 3:54:52 PM)

No noticable slowing down of the main page from here.

Real0ne -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/23/2006 4:09:45 PM)

What browser do you use? And which version?

I use Firefox 1.5 and haven't had any problems.

Misstoyou -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/23/2006 11:40:21 PM)

I thought the ads were pretty discrete, actually. No problems for me with Firefox or Safari.

GoddessDustyGold -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 12:49:34 AM)

I barely noticed the ad. I use IE the most, but also have netscape, opera and firefox downloaded for viewing when I am building a web. No problems with any of them.

imtempting -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 2:40:39 AM)

I use firefox and sometimes IE and I have many extensions on FF and the only problem I get is some coding errror..

The next time it happens ill sceen dump it and host it somewhere and link it here or your pm box ( If I know how to find it as I dont pm, email people much on this site )

I don't know about the other company, but Stockroom was my major competitor when I ran Diversified Services. They have excellent product and do a great job with their service.

MstrssPassion -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 5:45:33 AM)

No delay here either...
I'm quite glad to see that the advertising is in the form of a link rather than a pop up or that obnoxious banner ad that is various animals stretched out to disproportionate lengths or popping up from state by state destinations... those are a major PITA

IronBear -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 6:03:21 AM)

Add????? What add???? No slowdown via Firefox and IM

strongnsubmissiv -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 9:29:22 AM)

.

Symantics... i suppose SPAM was the wrong term.. i tend to use it synonymously with ADS.

The complaint wasn't that the ads are there... the complaint was that the front page kept hanging when that portion of the page would load. Although from reading everyone's post here, it seems like it was an isolated thing. In fact i just logged in now and it seems to be running pretty smooth.

As for your letter Guage.. it was a little childish and I really didn't need a lesson regarding free websites vs advertising space, much less take direction from you telling me "to deal with it". Some people like to be heard i guess.

NKYRope -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 3:34:12 PM)

What ad? I love Firefox and Adblock...

(PS- Before anyone complains about lost revenue, I would never have clicked any of those ads in the first place, so the site loses nothing from me. I understand the need for ads, bandwidth costs $$...)

MHOO314 -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 3:41:38 PM)

PLEASE Mods dump the sex ads!!!

stef -> RE: New Spam on frontpage (2/24/2006 4:01:30 PM)

I'm guessing you have no idea how much bandwidth costs for a popular website. How long did you expect that they would float the costs for the site without any incoming revenue? They have to pay the bills somehow and I'm surprised they lasted this long without ads.

Maybe you should donate the money you spend on martinis to the site then they would never have to rely on any other income source [sm=rolleyes.gif]

You have such class. It comes through on this site, too.

I'm not personally crazy for the semi porn pics that come up on the right hand side, but I'm a big girl and can certainly live with it if it helps you pay the toll.

I've not noticed any significant slow down, but I use a cable modem connection. Perhaps its isolated to dial up users?

Just a thought.
