Status: offline 		Not sure about using that criteria, i am friends with a really great Dom who had a "Masterly" name, it's just a name.
And to answer the original question ... i'm not sure it's possible to weed out some hng's until a meet, and in some cases they talk the talk pretty good then too ...
If they ask me about my darkest fantasies on initial contact, or want masturbatory emails i blow them out.

That reminds me of a personal I read on collarme awhile ago. This man had "Master" in his nic.

Anyhow, this master was complaining in his journal how he wasn't getting much messaging action, especially compared to his friend who was a domme.

I felt sorry for him (probably not the emotion a "true master" should be after from a stranger), and wrote him a message telling him he might have better results if he wasn't listed as a switch (unless, of course, he WAS a swtich).

His response to me was another complaint about how he couldn't get his classification changed by collarme.

Yeah, whatever.

Why jump right in looking for a relationship without building a foundation first? That way if anything happens, such as discovering they're not who they claim to be, you won't be so upset.

Unfortunately Estring is correct in that the majority of doms with 'master, lord, sir, dark' etc. as part of their nick are HNGs or wannabes or (insert label of choice here) who dont really have a clue what the lifestyle is all about - and that does make it harder for those of us that do, and are sincere about the lifestyle. We simply have to 'soldier on' as it were

Status: offline 		My first nick in the lifestyle had Master in the title, and I got to thinking a) Do I really know what being a "master" entails (having been involved for a whole 6 months) and b) do I really want to label myself. So I got rid of that particular me. Somebody wants to know about me, all they have to do is ask.

I am not sure how to weed out the Horny Net Geeks to be honest. I would simply recommend you follow your instincts.

I'm not going to, too many other things to worry about right now such as real life and finding a new place to live. Fun fun fun fun, please can I have some more? Anyways, I've actually made quite a few friends here, just haven't met anybody local yet, si la vi I guess.

Status: offline 		Hmmmm My personal advice to weed out HNG's (male and female alike) is wrapped into one line of questioning: Are you looking for a relationship? If so, are you looking for it online? If so, why?

HNG's obviously run into these questions, and have smooth answers - but inevitably the chinks in the armor show. "I had an accident so I can't work..." "It's a distraction from my stressful job..." "because I want to know the inner person..." all are perfectly acceptable answers, but when asked about munches, real time encounters, etc, inevitably the HNG - because they never leave their house - either has wild and unplausible stories, or simply states they don't like it (shyness, etc etc.)

Anyone can read castlerealm.com - but unless you live the practices behind the philosophy, the cracks are sure to show.

Oh, and HNG's invariably want cyber right off the bat (grins.)

Status: offline 		My honest answer would be avoid basing anything on the things you read, and more on what you feel when you meet the person.

I know that due to distance, and a concern for safety people dont jump into seeing others in the flesh immediately, but I do think this is the way to know what the other is like. In the past I've been burnt by subissives who say the right thing online, and aren't really honest with me or themselves.

I think that it's just hard to get to know somebody wholly online, even with phone calls. So I tend to stick with only playing with people who are local. Now this might mean I'm missing out on a lot, as some people seem lovely albeit far away, but I think it's safer for lots of reasons.

Sadistic.
