This is not directed at you modone :)

I wrote this in another thread and I truely stand by it. Even a threat off gline would not change my opinion.

Ive been banned, moderated, told to go elsewhere, had pics banned, comments edited or deleted, but though all that I still love the site.

The site needs to make money somehow. Those pictures being rude as they are would attract people. In most countries advertisng with those kind of pics is legal.

I wonder if people in this thread would donote money as not to need advertising?

I guess the answer would be no or they would want something in return. Im sure a quick pm to mod one asking what pay pal account to donote your money too would be gladly appreciated.

Untill that time just shut the hell up and stop complaining about the advertising...

As for the mail pages, do you get a different page than I do since when I open mail the poster's profile and picture appears? Some of those would be pretty offensive particularly if I were taking time from work to look at my personal mail.

[shaking head] Nope, the format of the ads haven't changed for me since their inception: just text and about two inches square. They have rotated one of those mortgage places in and frankly like that less than a text advert for an erotic site.

I didn't see the images either, but it seems that some folks did. I asume they got implimented, complained about and withdrawn whilst I was off-line. Hence I was initialy as confused as your good self as to why everyone was quite so bothered about the ads.

the issue appears to be IE vs. Netscape/Mozilla.

I use Netscape and when I view the pages like IE I get text ads, but when I view them like Firefox I get porn pictures (plus a bunch of format/code and layout issues are visible).

looks to depend on the browser.

i use IE and there were photo sex ads, lots of bare breasts, sexy poses etc.

it has been much better now that the ads -- at least on my end -- are just text ads. i spend a lot of time here, and do find the ads distracting, but eventually i'll adjust.

i find myself spending more time reading the boards in the past 36 hours and see that there are no ads here....hmmm i wonder if that is why ? giggles.

The ads go away after you have viewed them once. I saw a total of ten banners. For things such as mate1, a cell phone and a couple of other adult and dating sites. Nothing hardcore, nothing obnoxiously large. Then they turned into text ads. If you clear your cookies you see them again. It's called marketing, people that own the sites/services of the banner sites pay to have them there. I click on every one of them to generate revenue for the site, it's the least I can do to help IMO.

I have seen the site in several browsers, they appear the same in each one.

I honestly cannot see why some people are so upset over this, it is still free for you to use.

i get more nude pics in my regular email box than the ads here show, but i guess that's neither here nor there.

my computer is in my living room..the monitor in full view of anyone who happens to be home. My solution -- i play pogo games when i'm not alone, or surf the net. CM is reserved just for "me"... and thanks for the site.. it's become my home :)

Most bosses frown on going to personal pages, adult content or not. Not sure who you work for, but i never saw me on a site www.collarme.com as "safe", but perhaps i put a different spin on it than your bosses do..lol.

Decent internet security suite like Norton's block the huge majority of ads - and in the case of the increasingly ubiquitous dating/webcam/freeporn sidebar ads, at least block the images - only the text remains.

I think the ads are a travesty. Rampant commercialization has already kicked the living shit out of the internet. I would prefer this site to disappear than support those sleaze merchants.

Misstoyou: They are pulling in anywhere from 2-5 dollars for every one thousand views of the ads. ModeratorOne, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but based upon experience, your CPM earnings should be around that level.

I know I don't run the show at collarme, and I respect those who do. However, that does not mean that anyone here who isn't in charge is restricted from voicing their opinion. With a lovely twist of irony, us guests on the site have even more reason and power to say what we will, because since the day the ads were tacked up, we've indirectly become customers to their service, and not guests to their hobby site. We now have the power to speak with our pocketbook -and I know some people will- by visiting the site less often or not at all. While the effect may be small, it does effect the bottom line.

One of the grand things about the older collarme, was that I was not ashaimed to browse through it with my vanilla friends in proximity. Collarme had a level of class that other sites like alt.com or bondage.com could never hope to match. I find it unfortunate that ads were placed -though I do understand the reasoning- and even moreso unfortunate that the process of bringing them in seemed sloppy and rushed, and in turn, an eyesore. If you all recall, it was a matter of a week or so that the public message asking for assistance on adult website ads was taken down, and the actual ads were put up.

I saw quite a few of those image sex ads, needless to say. I hear they are gone, but it'll take awhile for me to believe, as I've grown to distrust many claims made on forums like these. Frankly, I think collarme could have done many things to benefit both parties that they didn't, and that their placement of ads on the collarme pages could be much more unobtrusive to the eye, and much more lucritive to those behind the curtain.

Alas, I know I'm probably going to be slammed by many who use my youth as a determining factor in argument, many who believe that collarme should do whatever they like however they like, and will likely have these arguments flatly ignored. I only hope it sends a message to the people who have the direct decision making power. Its easy to look at the ad revenue grow with wide eyes, and desire more. Its easy to move on those desires.

I sincerely hope there is some restraint in place. (pun soooo intended)
