With all due respect LAM I looked "reticent" up in four different dictionaries and "reluctant" was one of the uses in the definition. Now, possibly it has been adapted to mean "reluctant" although I do not profess to be an expert.

It's on the tip of my tingue, but can't place it.. I think it has something to do with to do with instructions for the practices of priests or nuns.

Nope, all four of us are correct. Well, I was 1/2 correct.

I looked it up after giving my answer, and Dictionary.com gave the definition Arpig gave and I had 1/2 right.

Knowing you are a word perfectinist, LAM, I looked farther after reading your post. I found your definition in Wikidpedia and on on Websters site it has Arpigs as the definition and yours and Iceys under specialy definition.

With all due respect my dear Candy, if someone says a word is wrong the ultimate fall back will have to be a dictionary(s). Therefore using a dictionary to prove out the meaning of the word when told it is wrong should be acceptable.

Status: offline 		I think that's a technical way of saying "edible" (e.g. "esculent plants"), but I'd have to look it up. I'm not sure.

Edited to add: OK, I looked up "reticent," "gafiate," and "esculent" in OED.

I was right about "esculent."

I have no idea what "gafiate" means, and it's not in OED. Does it mean what IceyOne said?

The OED definition of "reticent" is simple:

Reserved; disinclined to speak freely; given to silence or concealment.


It doesn't mean "reluctant."

to remove oneself from science-fiction activities...the impression I got though was that removal was through death

I was close...lol, not sure if that counts though
