When you meet someone in the vanilla world -- any chance of hints that they might be a submissive?

Speaking only from "my" experiances.
Look for someone willing to please, an extremely attentive host.
Politeness, attention to those in conversation with, and a willingness to accept responsibilty or take the blame when they make a mistake.
Not saying that everyone with these traits are a submissive, or that all subs posess these traits...
But these are a few common ones I have noticed.
These are actually traits I would like to see in about everyone I know... ;)

Her eyes....

Everywhere I go, I'm always looking at women's eyes. It's not so much any independent physical characteristic a sub's eyes may have so much as a response or "recognition" that comes from contact with mine....

Yeah, I know it's a grey area but it works for me - I call it "same species recognition"....

Thanks for the mantra quietkitten...gawd its hard though...to be honest a lot of women here go out sporting huge great shackles and chains, and you look in THE EYES and you know its THE ONE and then I slap a collar on her and drag her home and....erg..

ROFLMAO!!! Thanks, I needed to laugh this hard.

Personally I just ask to see their official Submissives Union Card.

Semi-seriously, I forget where I read it but I seem to recall someone saying they could easily spot whether someone was dominant or submissive buy telling them to sit down on the couch. If they sat down right away they were submissive... if they hesitated for a moment and thought about it, they were dominant.

How do you spot a submissive? I prefer magic marker, bingo dauber ... oh shit, what was that mantra again?

I find getting to know the person, investing some time in them and developing a friendship, their personality will shine through. Hint - if they expect you to kneel and clean their boots with your tongue, odds are, they aren't submissive - damn! Forgot the mantra again.

Try and peek down their shirt and see if you see the letter "s" on their chest. Word of caution: If the "S" is capitalized this is not a submissive. If you see a capitalized "S' you must be looking at your own reflection in the mirror Superman. <wink>

Maybe not a submissive trait or anything like that, but when I talk with a guy and sort of know that he could probably get away with any number of unspeakable acts (never talk about it, just do it) ... I tend to cross my feet without even thinking about it, like a stupid middle school girl.

Then I look down, see my feet crossed and feel like a dork, Guys that spot it and know what it means, think it's cute though, so all is not lose.

Hmmm! I have no clue what sort of message I would send then, probably a very confusing one!

I'm tall and walk upright shoulders back, head high and with good eye contact. I AM exceptionally shy and this is WHY I do it. Show no weakness ;)

When we are out *I* am the more aggressive one usually, my DOM is quieter - a watcher, I'm most always the conversation starter.

I have a firm handshake. I hate those limpy ones, good LORD get a grip!

As I recall they might or might not... the point being they stopped to think about what they would do for themselves, submissives tended to reflexively follow instruction. How literally true that is is debatable but I imagine there is probably a grain of truth in the idea.
