I had a scam not long ago. Some fool living not far from me wrote and asked for money for some scheme or other. I kept him on the go with a few emails and letters and finally dug up a sheaf of monopoly money and posted it to him. He was opening it and cursing as the Federal Police raided his home…. I imagine he will be the “tea boy” for a few large hairy local lads for a few months in jail…Don’t know if he has access to condoms though.

That sounds like the woman who said she was in Afica with her Dying Mother, and needed money to save her, and then her Yahoo Profile said she was in the US. I reported her as scam.

Still Vigelent as Mad Eye Moody, BalletBob

Regarding the poster mentioning a call from a random charity, if people really want to donate there are official and well-known websites, phone numbers, etc for donations and sometimes volunteer work. Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, St. Jude Hospital, etc... we all know some.

I do admit, however, that I am sympathetic and empathetic of others in hard times, but state to others -- especially if I am alone -- that I cannot help them or have somewhere to be, in the event I am approached. For instance, my Master and I were at a downtown gas station and there are panhandlers all over from hurricanes Katrina and Rita (yeah, dead giveaway to my whereabouts, lol! [:-], some that even approached me while in his car as he went on the other side of the car to fill up. Legitimate or not, they creep me out. There are also so-called army veterans and others that have made a fortune doing this, and are in no need of help whatsoever -- some of them have been convicted from around here. I have to turn my emotions off and remember that there are other ways that I can make sure that my money and time are given to the right organizations.

It's really sad that you cannot trust people anymore. In general, not just online. We all have to watch out for scam artists, rapists, murderers, etc and many of them play on our sympathies. I feel as if I do my part where there is absolutely no danger to myself and where I can be sure assistance I give goes to the right place.

Thanks to the OP for making us aware of this. Collarme has the warning, yes, but it is much easier to fool someone into helping when they are made a "friend" first.

LMAO IronBear... Monopoly money, who would've thought? [:D]

I think it qualifies as safety because some people who have fallen for the Nigerian scam variant have ended up 'disappearing' (according to quatloos.com).

Playing on sympathies is EXACTLY how ted bundy it was I think got all his victoms. One of the killers played injured and wounded and asked could you give me a ride to the other side of parking lot or where ever he wanted then attacked the women.

And as for those charities on tv that plea for your help children are hungry dirty diseased STARVING OR Dead...

I tried finding out if I could send in donations of bottled water clothing and other stuff and they only wanted money, since those "charities" take a cut of the money sent into them to keep them going they were not interested in stuff they could not take a cut of.

these people are everywhere not just here. at a western union they have a sign up saying if you are wanting to send money to someone you meet off the interent to tell the cashier. more or less they will not give you the money order.
