I think at the very least I'd move it to some other time of year.

Valentine died on Feb 14th, so to move it would sort of defeat the whole idea. Research the feast of Lupercalia if you want further insight into history behind the holiday. Maybe you'll change your mind about it being abolished.

Now...see... Lupercalia -- *that's* a festival I could get behind. Slaughter some goats, smear everybody with animal blood, pick a random sexual partner for the year...

Ancient pagans had all the fun.

My boyfriend and I kind of celebrate Valentine's day... I mean, he gives me chocolate, and I give him some kind of home made gift (this year, he's getting a "Certificate of my Undying Love")... We just do something little.... Our Anniversary is a month later... we really celebrate then.... (YAY! 2 YEARS!!! I NEED TO BE CONGRATULATED! LOL) But I kinda like it... Red's one of my favorite colors... lol...

The last few years the male sector has been trying to create a male equivalent to V-day. It happens in March and is called Steak & BJ Day..

hmmm. If I were a real brat I would get him some lotion and a slim jim to make up for years of crappy gifts

I just overheard some talking head on TV raise this question and it seemed interesting...

Abolish a day that adds to the capitalists' coffers? You can't be serious. Pigs will fly before Valentine's Day is abolished!

I'd be more for reclaiming it then abolishing it.

People give out about it being commercial but it doesnt have to cost anything but some effort. E-cards are free, giving a foot rub is free etc.

The best card I got was one my son made and I wouldn't swap seeing the pride on his face at his efforts for anything.

Some of us really do think the thought is more important than what it cost.

Vday, memorial day, xmas, vet day, all commemorate a day of admiration, recognition, and honor for the things that are considered of value to us in a society. It is to honor a group for instance to remind us what we value in life.

It certrainly is not forced love, or forced to join the navy day.

The blame i think as someone else pointed out should go to the commercialization of it, not what it stands for.
