A little recapitulation:

I looked up "uraeus," since I didn't know it, and Petruchio is absolutely right; all I'd add is that it seems to come originally from Greek.

"Lanner" is indeed a kind of falcon. That one I knew.

"Miamsa" looks like a misspelling of "miasma," which we already did. But maybe I'm wrong.

I'll throw out a new word...proleptic

You're certainly coming up with a lot of religious terms, pinkie.

"Prolepsis" literally means "anticipation"; it's a category of anachronism in which things or events are placed before they really occur. "You're a dead man" is a good example of prolepsis. The addressee is not REALLY dead yet (unless the speaker is addressing a corpse). In practice, most anachronisms are proleptic--for example (as long as we're talking about Shakespeare), the clock in Julius Caesar.

OK, next words...a pair..."tare" and "tret."

Hey fastlane..look!

Main Entry:lit£ur£gy
Pronunciation:*li-t*r-j*
Function:noun
Inflected Form:plural -gies
Etymology:Late Latin liturgia, from Greek leitourgia public service, from Greek (Attic) le*ton public building (from Greek laos * Attic le*s * people) + -ourgia -urgy
Date:1560

1 often capitalized : a eucharistic rite
2 : a rite or body of rites prescribed for public worship
3 : a customary repertoire of ideas, phrases, or observances

Merriam-Webster 11th Collegiate Dictionary

As far as i know, everyone has a right to worship. You were an altar boy? YOU???? LMAO.

BTW, "lovelorn" is "heartsore".

No idea about Lam's words.

tare is a useless part (kinda)

if I ship you something in the mail , the envelope and stamp is the tare.

Yep. You use it in grocery stores, too. (I worked at Payless as a cashier for about two days when I was 18).

It's anything on a package that affects the overall weight of the product, but isn't part of the product. Say you have a container of blueberries. The container, labeling, etc. wouldn't count towards the weight of the actual produce, so what's left over after the actual blueberries is the tare. Usually the tare is automatically taken out at checkout so that you're not paying for the plastic.

I think tret is the net weight (as opposed to tare being the extra that makes up gross weight). After you subtract the tare the tret should be what is left over.

Damn it's freaky the useless knowledge I retain.

If I'm right, here's a new word (one of my favorites). Bonus points if you can get the etymology right.

New Word: Desultory

Edited to add: Etymology is one of my odd passions. I had a brilliant Etymology teacher when I was fourteen, and it led to a strange lifetime passion. It's interesting seeing where words come from and learning why we use them as we do.
