reverend -> Human branding !! (1/29/2006 5:40:45 PM)

Ouch. Sounds painful. I want to get branded. Something simple. Anyone ever had this done or maybe know where this can be done at? I've asked around and no one can help me and well, I know there has to be a lot of interesting people browsing this that has come across it.

I've googled it but found nothing promising. I'm very tempted on doing it myself (err having friends help) but infections don't sound fun. Any leads, tips, suggestions are welcome.

Oh you rock. I kept typing in the wrong words. Thanks

I went to a branding demo recently and the presenter was selling branding pens. This is a medical grade cautery pen with a thin wire that heats up to 2200. This pen is a disposable self contained unit and you use it much like a knife or pen to draw/burn a brand into the skin. It lasts a few months to a few years depending on the depth and the person. But you can always re-brand for longer lasting marking or do other things to increase scarification.

I watched one being done on an inner arm and the guy it was done on rated the pain a 3 on a 0-10 scale. (Who knows what that means to another individual.) Anyway, it was very cool.

Anyway, I still have my notes from the demo. Yes, I am that much of a dork. If anyone would like a copy, just email me. And a pen can be bought here.

We did a single strike branding several months ago of my owners initial of his last name. I have some information up about what the experience was like, a slideshow of the pictures of the healing, and some of the sites we went to for information (though we also talked to epople we knew in real life who did brandings, as well as attend some branding ceremonies). Its at: www.wildfleurs.com/brand

You might want to check out bmezine.com. They have scads of info on all sorts of body mods. I've never been branded but I do know that you have to be cautious, especially if it's being done by amateur branders, because the high heat is very unpredictable and a fraction of a second can make a difference in terms of ruining the design and long term damage (well, beyond the brand itself [;)] )

When I first started looking into body mods beyond tatoos I thought branding would be a good option. I spoke to an experienced scarification artist who won't do branding (he has a couple of brands himself) because he feels they are too unpredictable and as an artist he prefers to have more control over the end product. Even so, I think branding can be pretty cool (pun fully intended) just do lots of research. Oh, and be aware of how your body heals. Branding can yield different results for different people depending on how their skin heals. Then once you get it done, post pics for the rest of us to perv on [:D]

reverend -> RE: Human branding !! (1/29/2006 7:14:18 PM)

Ya'll are awesome. I was informed that businesses (tattoo and piercing parlors) in the USA cannot do this, cause I guess its illegal.

I doubt I'd do it myself cause if an experience scarification artist said he wont touch it, no way would I be interested in doing it myself. If the oppurtunity ever arised for me to do this I'll def. post pics but dont hold your breath. After finding out it was illegal its gonna be that much harder to find someone to go along with it. Thanks again ya'll and keep posting info and suggestions.

MistressDREAD -> RE: Human branding !! (1/29/2006 7:46:01 PM)

there are many good posts here with in Collarme on this subject
take the time and read back in the posts around the end of the
year 2004 and beginning of 2005. reverend

I do strike branding if ever in Florida. Remember in making
your brand to use thin lines and simplistic design because the
brand heals and widens.

MistressFire70 -> RE: Human branding !! (1/29/2006 8:00:43 PM)

A cauterizing pen is a great tool for branding. Remember that the brand will spread over time, so very intricate designs aren't a good idea.

I was branded in Dec (yes, a Master was branded). If you're interested, you can go here to see it. I chose to do this for spiritual reasons.

Ohhhhhhhhh Mistressfire70...........they look so beautiful

How badly did they hurt?

EvilGeoff -> RE: Human branding !! (1/29/2006 9:53:50 PM)

One major facet of branding to consider is the control and consistency of the heat source you are using and the damage it can cause to skin Keep this in mind - I am not an expert, I AM NOT TELLING YOU HOW TO BRAND ANYONE. DO NOT BRING MY NAME UP IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU TRY BRANDING GET HURT. DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME!

Okay, disclaimer done, here's a little about what I do know and can share:

#1 - a temperature of 150 degrees fahrenheit left in contact with skin can produce 3rd degree burns (the kind of burn you need to produce a permanent brand). Depending on several factors, the time of contact needed to produce the 3rd degree burn may vary from 1 - 3 seconds (at 150 degrees). 120 degrees left in contact for 5 - 7 seconds can produce third degree burns. In otherwords, you can get tap water hot enough to produce burn scars (branding).

#2 - the specific heat of the type of metal to be used will determine the time you need to leave it in contact with the skin. High carbon steel holds heat very well. Aluminum on the other hand, dissipates heat quickly. A brand made of thin aluminum may lose enough heat before contacting skin to leave only a first degree burn or no burn at all. A brand of thick, high carbon steel on the other hand, will almost assuredly make 3rd degree burns if heated over 150 degrees.

#3 - boiling water produces a temperature of 212 degrees fahrenheit, well above the 150 needed for a 3rd degree burn, therefore producing a source of consistent, controllable, heat.

#4 - depending on the type of metal used, a branding iron submerged in boiling water will get quite hot enough to burn the skin, based on time of contact. The burn may vary from 1st degree (reddening of the skin) that will heal in a few days, to 2nd degree (blistering) that may take a few weeks to heal completely, to 3rd degree (burning into the underlying tissue, nerve damage, scarring) that may last for months or years or be permanent.

#5 - burns are nothing to joke about. Extensive burns are life threatening. Even small 3rd degree burns may cause someone to go into shock. It may not happen, but be prepared to summon EMS and take a trip to the hospital if necessary. Better a burned live sub than an accidentally dead one.

As an alternative to cauterizing pens, fire brands or water brands, you can also use a violet wand for branding. Using a body probe to draw the current through you, you can use a dental pick or similar pointy metal object to apply the spark. Repeated passes over the same area will create burns.

Last piece of advice - don't try to learn to do branding by yourself. FIND someone in your BDSM community or the body modification community who does branding. Learn from them. WATCH them brand someone. Reading about this online or in a book is not a good way to go about it. This really is a skin-2-skin, f-2-f skill.

Hope that helps, do be careful.

YIK,
- Geoff

I'm not into tattoos, but would love to have my owner consider branding. How long did they take to heal and do you have any pictures of them after they did heal.

Despite the best efforts of the beltway kabal, the US is still mainly a patchwork of state laws and these are the laws that govern branding. Quite a few states legalize it and most of those regulate it. Your problem just may be finding a local bodymod person who is skilled in the particular art.

Most tattoo shops will do branding. Just give them a call and ask. For the love of goddess, get it done professionally though. I've seen the worst that can happen with self-branding and it's disgusting. A friend used a red-hot screwdriver to make a very large cross on his arm. It got infected and was oozing green and white. Very nasty.
My ex had a brand that covered his back done with a coat hanger. It too got infected and he spent a lot of time in the hospital as a result.

I have small brand on my forearm made with a cigarette. I was a somewhat unwilling party to it.

Whatever you do, take care of it. It will turn out pretty gross if you don't. Improper care can even ruin the brand's shape.

The BDSM community in BC looks to Elwood for most piercing and branding. He is a skilled artist.
His website is: www.allaboutelwood.com
Feel free to email him if you have questions

While Im sure this Elwood person is a very talented and established artist on the Coast, there are also many talented and well know artist aside from him in the BC interior too. A little off topic, but I gotta put in my 2 cents for my home town of Vernon, BC.

All respects meant,

Oh my goodness, we've been doing it wrong all this time!

My hubby usually heats up a lighter and uses that, turned in just the right direction, it looks like a J (his name begining with a J) it's perfect.

I love being branded, he always does it light, so he can repeat it at a later date, to satisfy my need to have pain.

Gosh, i sure hope not. I would hate to have to go to jail for being branded....or would that be Master that would have to go to jail for doing the branding? Either way it would suck. I have just been branded, Master's initials on my ass. A wonderful, delicious pain...but better still was the feeling of total submission. Really reaffirms that that ass belongs to Master.

http://www.bmezine.com/scar/scar-faq.html#Q3-1 here is another site to check out.

I personally did Mine and My slaves with a paper clips shaped into the letters of a M and S

slave bishop has just an S(slave) for now and I have MS(Mistress Sassy incase your wondering).

I cleaned the skin with a hospital grade wipe...heated the clip(which was also cleaned 1st)for 15-20 seconds...held it on the skin for a count of 10.you can see it sink into the skin you know you have a good start.Its been about a year now....and they are still visible,but not something that sticks right out either.I followed normal burn care and no problems at all. EXCEPT it hurt like hell at first...longest 10 seconds I have ever had.

** NOTE** I realize this may not be the best method so I dont reccommend it...Just sharing O/our story of the branding experience.

ownedgirlie -> RE: Human branding !! (2/7/2006 2:03:44 PM)

i am marked by my Master via tattoo. He considers this my brand, as do i. He did not want me burned, and that was his choice. Instead i have a wonderful black and red tattoo of an insignia created by him, on my right flank, which is my mark of ownership...hence my brand.

i highly credit those who have been iron-branded. A friend of mine was branded with a cattle ironand it took her months to heal. i am a pain wimp. i think that would have killed me.
