So I'm watching Antiques Roadshow, drinking a beer and surfing.
Made me think...what do you collect and why?

I collect original artwork.
Mainly abstract watercolors.
I collect them just because I love to see beautiful things as often as possible.

I collect:

  • Antique Typewriters - I love the look of them. Portables with round keys =)
  • ScionxB Toys - I have a cool car and they make toys of them so why not collect them.
  • Books about comic writing and especially Allan Moore - He knows the score.

cobalt blue glassware. It's like the depression glass, I have canisters (two canister sets), tea pitcher, vases, candle holders, a crazy assortment of stuff. It's special because one of my best friends started the collection for me and when she goes to yard sales she's always picking something up to add to it.

---heads for the pack rat line

Fast food toys (well use to at least....45 boxes full at last count) as it was one of the few things that brought me pleasure during a nasty divorce.

50's hats...to hang on my bathroom wall...which led to beaded purses, gloves, perfume bottles, compacts, hat pins, handkerchiefs and estate jewelry to match...making my bathroom close to the most expensively decorated room in the house.

Bells
Suns and Moons

Dude...

There was a Mad Mag with Lyndon Johnson in it, I don't remember the story line but he whips out his six shooter and says, This here's mah peacemaker....... you don't happen to know the issue do you (mid to late 60's I am sure)? That's one I wanna get..........

Thanks for any info.

lol, I don't know if we need a thread for this or not?

I don't want to hijack the lovely and talented Aileen's thread ;)

But, okay, just what makes a Pack Rat different from a collector? At a guess I might say it is the difference between collecting fine art and useless junk ;) - though I can't say my tools are useless (just covered in endless sawdust).

Okay, few more items:
I don't TECHNICALLY collect guitars, but I reckon when you have seven or so it get's to be called a 'collection' ;)

Hmmm .... I have more chess sets than is needed for one person ... oh yeah, and quite a pile of other more geeky sort of gaming equipment.

I USED to clloect war memorabilia - got rid of most of it, but I still have the canteen that my great-grandfather carried to france in 1917.

*whew* Now I am just rambling ;)

My Mad magazines from the 50's and 60's are 'spotty' and incomplete ... got a more specific date?
