Sensualips -> Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/15/2006 4:30:42 PM)

Janet Hardy, author of "The Ethical Slut," "The New Bottoming Book," "Radical Ecstasy", etc, will be just two hours away from me next weekend presenting. I was all jazzed to attend, particularly the session on ethical slutdom.

Now I am forced to attend a court-mandated co-parenting workshop instead. In my county every parent must attend this with their spouse before a divorce will be granted. I could postpone it, but that would jack up my court date for the divorce and create a big overall mess. Sigh.

I am grumpy.

kyraofMists -> RE: Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/15/2006 6:09:32 PM)

Sensual,

Sorry to hear that; I am sure that you would have enjoyed the presentation. I just got back from a Mind Fuck presentation by John Warren....

*sticks out tongue* that's for the needle pictures *eg*

On a serious note, it is too bad that you have to miss it.

kyra

Sensualips -> RE: Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/15/2006 9:04:15 PM)

Thank you for the sympathy. And I am ignoring the tongue poking because I get to see the same presentation by John in April. Nanner nanner! :)

The motto I always tell my friends and lovers:

There's always another convention.

Ah, but you can't always count on the same speakers. I was forcefully reminded of that when my friend and mentor, Len Dworkin, died suddenly of a heart attack.

We do die.

MistressDREAD -> RE: Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/16/2006 12:21:30 PM)

hahahahah WELL
John on that same
line of thought
Parents die too.
Which is more
important?
The right presentation
with the right speaker
or Parents distroying
a bond and having to
be forced to address
issues by court order
to its happy ending?

Hellllllo [8|] Am I the
only One here with the
prograhm?
I think Ill ask the question:

Whining is unbecoming and I appreciate a shut-up attitude on the subject. I find the "too sexy to pout" comment rather distasteful.

I am not sure if your disdain is directed at the idea of divorce or the idea of court mandated workshops.

Clearly parenting takes priority over fun things. However, as I pointed out, this is mandatory for all divorcing parents in my county and has nothing to do with being forced to address specific issues. My ex and I have successfully co-parented for over a year, I make this a very high priority in my life, and I discuss any issues individually with a qualified family therapist on a regular basis. Therefore I am pretty sceptical that information given to me in a four hour county mental health workshop with thirty other parents will be have more long term value than a workshop regarding maintaining healthy relationships in a poly lifestyle.

Alas, we do what we must.

LA, how was Arisia anyway?

I agree, is his new wife required to attend as well? The three of you attending together might do a lot of good.

And no, it's not worth mucking up and prolonging just for a nifty cool convention.

Check out the post in the Off Topic Discussion area, or my LJ :) It was pretty awesome.

You're right, Sensual, you're just not sexy at all.

krys -> RE: Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/19/2006 5:56:24 PM)

You may want to consider looking into the possibility of an online course. You could call the Clerk at your Courthouse and see if they have a Court-approved online course available. Such as Positive Parenting Through Divorce. You just have to make sure they accept an online course, as not all Circuits do.

Sensualips -> RE: Transparent Post Looking for Sympathy (1/19/2006 8:50:49 PM)

Unfortunately my county won't accept anything but this workshop. But that is a great suggestion, Krys. I didn't realize they had those available online.

1st Sorry you have to miss the workshop ...but just so you feel that perhaps all is not lost or wasted ...maybe 'you' will end up contributing something important to someone (someone who quietly really needs it) in that room, maybe without even realizing it,vis a vis something you say or share at some point.

Good point... so I better start bugging you now to get over and do a workshop or three in the UK rather than waiting [;)]

I might have to skip the needle one but anything else.... I'd be there for sure[:)]

To the OP: I compleatly understand, these things always seem to happen when it is least convenient!
C'est la vie
