I may have missed it but I haven't discovered a thread discussion on bruises yet.

This is what interests me at the moment-- two questions --

1-- Bruises -- How do you feel about causing / getting bruises as part of play? Are there safety issues to be mindful of? (Bruises here are NOT injuries, broken bones or more serious harm.)

2--Bruise-free play -- Is there a way to play vigorously (roughly) (however you define those words) and not cause any bruises? To be wholly aroused, bound etc and not bruised.

I suppose inherent in both questions is the discussion of just what causes a bruise. I ask because this is good information to know and because some women in particular have sensitive skin more prone to bruising and do not wish more bruising than can be helped.

Ideas, thoughts, stories, tips all welcome.

some of us just mark more easily than others, i dont think i can have bruise free play,lol, besides i would miss Masters marks on me

I personally love the bruises. They are almost like a badge of honor showing what I was able to take in order the please my Dom. Now 10 months ago I would of told you that you were nuts if you had told me I would feel this way.

I never mind bruises when they're delivered in a sensible way. Then they're a reminder of a special time. I wouldn't like them if they occurred from acts of stupidity, ignorance, or deliberate cruelty.

As said, they serve as a reminder...not of what I can take, but of the pleasure that I get knowing that he LIKES to see me bruised :)

I guess I am in the minority, but I don't particularly care for bruises. If they occur and are in reasonably concealed area, it is no big deal. It happens. But I don't like to admire them, look at them, or need them to remind me a special moment. I don't like to walk around displaying bruises as they just seem tacky to me. Sort of like a neck full of hickeys.

I understand some people attach symbolic significance to them though.

I don't have an issue with causing bruising.... some of the bruising I have caused in play has been significant. I don't go into play for the intent to cause bruising... that is not the point of play for me.... yes it can be side effect of what I do... but it is not the purpose and never will be. The purpose of play for me is to have fun... so what is fun? Fun is dependent on the person or persons I am playing with.... sometimes the activity will have minimal risk of bruising... sometimes it will be very likely. Also, I am a Sadist... most of my fun is very much derived from causing pain in the play.... Not always but mostly.... all so subspace... well that is a by-product of the fun from my play... not the purpose.... Of course... when I have quenched my fill so to speak... the bottom gets that final ride of the subspace... *G* but the get a good share of that in and out for alot of the play anyways... but it always ends that way... or at least that how I try to end it for the bottom. That final reward so to speak. As far as safety in bruising... alot of that is dependent on what your using and where the bruising is being caused.... truth is... alot bruising doesn't show up right in play... sometimes it not until a day or two or even three days later before the full extent of the bruising is seen. this is one area that gets alot of people in trouble right away.... they play someone to hard.... and then a day or two later the full efffects of the bruising comes to be... and well it's HOLY SHIT!!! for some. Not to mention that people will change... more then play.. changes in position... different toys... it all comes to effect how the bruising is going to take effect.... One big peeve of mine... is the bottom that says... "they can't be Bruised.... well that just bravado talking... fact is anyone can be bruised... using the right combinations of force.. toys... position and location... a person will get bruised.

Depends what you call vigorously rough.... and depends on who your talking about.... I can play very rough with alandra... and it will be very unlikely that she will be bruised... kyra is similiar... but kyra is more susceptible scratching type marks and if I didn't want to cause marks... I would have to be very careful of this. However, both girls have enjoyed alot of play that allowed to build up some resistance to some impacts.... A new person... that has never been played to any extent... well... I sure wouldn't say you could play rough with out bruising... in fact I would also plan on having bruising. so much actually depends on the person your playing with... and not just what your doing....

the first time i was marked by Master, i thought OMG...when i saw all the red spots left behind from some very light play....and they turned into some very colorful bruises after a couple of days i started to really like them. when they were gone i missed them,lol.

LOL I can remember times where my whole body, from the shoulders down to my feet were just nothing but one big massive bruise...

gee i wonder if i expressed that desire to Master...if i would get accused of topping from the bottom

,methinks that is a good winter activity goal....

I've never bruised deliberately, never for the sake of bruising, but sometimes when playing roughly, it happens, often when and where you least expect it.

My amour from a few years ago used to love the occasional bruise, thinking of it as 'my brand' on her. She'd get so excited, I'm sure she would have bragged to others if she could have.

TIP
If you have someone with particularly fragile skin, drape a wet towel over them. They get to feel everything while the wet towel spreads the impact.

In my opinion, the more colorful the bruises are the better. However, I will rarely bruise from impact play. The most bruising I have ever received from impact play was with a paddle. Flogging, punching and kicking leaves only minimal bruising for me. Canes leave nice pretty welts, but not bruises. A non-impact play that leaves a lot of bruising is biting. I get very colorful marks from that.

Scratches on the other hand will mark me up for months. I have fingernail scratches and knife marks (no blood drawn) from 8 months ago and it will be many more months before they are completely gone.

Tape is something else that will leave significant marks on me. I found this out from visits to the doctor and not from any BDSM play.

For me, I would not enjoy play if my Lord had to concern himself with not bruising me. I love the complete freedom of being able to play to the edges of our limits and not worry about the marks left on the body.

I'm not sure what this says about me (well, yes, I guess I am sure), but my most common bruises are teeth marks (breasts, neck, etc.) Hmm.

they are to my mind..a wonderful occurance...for Master to hear me say, i want to be marked, he would laugh at how far i have come
