LadyShoshin -> Ontario, alternative lifestyle under attack (8/5/2004 9:23:34 PM)

Hamilton is a steel town filled with all kinds of people, including gay and kinky people. Recently we were shocked at the behavior of our local police. http://www.xtra.ca/site/toronto2/html/hamiltonbath.shtm This is not just a homosexual issue, it is an issue of alternative lifestyles undergoing harrassment in a country where we are known for politeness & apologizing. We have liasons on the police force who supposedly sensitize police officers to the issues surrounding alternative lifestyles, apparently, they aren't getting the point across.

HAMILTON QUEERS HOOT, LAUGH AT COPS' STORY
By Tanya Gulliver
An emergency meeting Aug 5 about a bathhouse raid raised more questions
than it answered. The public information session was called by the
Hamilton Police Service in concerns from the queer community over an Aug
3 inspection of The Warehouse Spa And Bath that saw two patrons charged
with committing indecent acts.

DID HAMILTON POLICE GO LOOKING FOR GAY SEX?
By Paul Gallant
One of the owners of Hamilton's Warehouse Spa And Bath says police went
into the bathhouse looking for gay sex during an inspection the evening
of Aug 3, which resulted in criminal charges against two patrons.

ahhhh yes Shoshin but isent that what We tax payers pay for
is the police doing inspections and reverse stings as they call
it and bust the damn insulant fools whom would dare break
the moral code or common law of deciency!!!! HA! You know
any police officer whom has to break the law to uphold it in My
opinion is well working for a corrupted system. And yes I can
speak on this from FIRST Hand experiance on both sides of the
spectrum. There is only one way to work with a black market
and yesss a corrupted system works on the concepts of black
market and thats to find the one of power at the top whom plays
at the games you do and black mail the shit outta em to gain
protection!!! It sounds a sad state for Me to have to say such doesent
it but its so true. It hurts Me to even have to say such truths.
JMO. Keep up a stiff upper lip above and below Shoshin. I hope
Lifestylers have come out and rallied for the business and its Owners
and not run hiding in their closets praying their lifestyle wont be
taken away or their kinks found out. ~wink~

I think the Hamilton Police should spend their time trying to catch the badguys, and I am sure there are lots of them in Hamilton and area.

Leave people to enjoy the lifstyle and after all they are not hurting anyone except maybe themselves and thats acceptable.

We spend away too much tax dollars on Police costs and they always want more tax dolars to fight the bad guys.

Leave the good guys alone and maybe save some tax dollars would be a very good idea.

The problem is, who decides who are the "bad guys". To some people, homosexuals who frequent bathhouses and gay bars are "the bad guy". Someone who guns another person down in the street is a murderer, but a soldier gunning someone down in the street in a war zone is a hero. (I am not putting down the need for military presence in world hot spots). Someone who steals is a thief, even if their reason for theft is that they have been turned down by social programming and are trying to merely survive.
To the moral majority, I am a bad guy, a Wiccan studying Shamanism who is also a Dominatrix. A triple threat if you will. People like me were burned or drowned in the not too distant past.
It is easy to say, go after the bad guys, but we have to remember, to some people, we are the bad guys.

It looks like the queer community thinks that they are entitled to preferential treatment to me, and they aren't above playing the "homophobia" card to get it. From the look of what you posted, this was a routine sweep that cops do of adult oriented businesses (including bars and discos) all the time. One of the places happened to be a "queer space".

I have some exposure to both sides of this issue. I've known some adult business owners, and I've known a lot of cops. Any adult business owner knows, or should know, that they come in for more scrutiny than other businesses, so they need to keep what goes on in their place legal. Ask any cop, and they'll tell you why. Cops are out there doing a job, and a damn tough job at that. They don't have a hard-on for the local bathhouse, or the local peep-show, or titty bar, or whatever. Hell, you'll find some in any one of those places when they're off duty. They get complaints. Aside from the general religious zealots that want all such places closed, some people just get pissed off at the what happens around them. People leave drunk and piss on people's lawns. They side-swipe cars. They leave used condoms in the street for kids to find. Empty poppers, needles, etc.

Were the cops "looking for gay sex"? What if they were? They go into strip joints and peep shows looking for heterosexual sex all the time. Does that make them heterophobic? No. It makes them law enforcement officers. It's against the law to have sex in those places here, and from the sound of it, there too. How is it that the "queer space" is above or apart from the law?

Regardless of whether our alternative lifestyle is gay or hetero, it is our personal responsibility to conduct it in accordance with the law. If we choose not to (I certainly have at times, and I'm sure most folks here have too) and we get caught at it, we need to be grown-ups, and accept the consequences, not whine that someone is picking on us becuase of our lifestyle or because they are [take your pick]phobic. If the men that frequent that place don't want to get busted, they need to meet there, and go somewhere else (a motel room maybe?) where it's legal to fuck. Is that so hard? If that bath house is there specifically to promote and facilitate an illegal activity, frankly, I don't know how it stays open.

I'm posting here personally, not as a mod. The opinions that I have expressed here are my own, and in no way reflect the opinions of the owners, administrators, or other moderators on collarme.
