i can't think of anything that pisses me off MORE than political correctness. It makes me want to gag and barf

all over the politically correct folks. Makes me want to smack 'em across the face and yell "GET REAL!"

A lot depends on what you mean by "political correctness." It can be overdone and is in many cases. While I'm sure this doesn't include you, all too often, I've seen those who object do so because it interfers with their "god given" right to be ignorant bigots with no consideration for anyone who doesn't match their religion, race or educational void.

I detest political correctness of any form simply because it is used as a distraction of the truth - it's hypocritical, it's mainly used to shape and influence public opinion to promote any particular agenda - It's a form of censorship, to it's highest degree - it promotes animosity among people - Why should we have to be afraid of using the wrong word, the "politically incorrect" word, a word denounced as offensive, sexist, racist, or homophobic by this group or the other? Political correctness is nothing more than a totalitarian ideology - It has slowly but surely spread and infested our nation like a disease.

If my views are considered racist, or offensive, so be it - I know that I am not a racist, that I am not a "religious zealot", I am not a bigot or a homophobic, but I will be damned if I am not allowed to speak my mind and speak the truth as I see it because it might be considered "insensitive" or "offensive" by some.

Man, I just have such a hard time getting worked up about this issue. Maybe I am just not sensitive enough. I agree with John Warren's take on it and have said as much earlier in this thread. I mistrust some of the people who get all bent out of shape about political correctness. I sure don't see it as a major theme in American popular culture, anyway. People are allowed to be offensive and insensitve, and actually seem proud of it. It's the American way. So if someone criticises you for it, deal with it. I learned long ago that it's impossible to go through life pleasing everybody. Therefore, I am actually going to offend some people. If I offend someone and they call me on it, I am not gonna try to silence their criticism with some popular (and whiney) catch phrase like "political correctness".

I think I'm lucky I was raised on the humor of the Lampoon, Firesign Theatre, and other folks who made a practice of roasting EVERYone.

Personally, I find PC very useful in certain situations.

When people ask me why I shave my head, I reply, "I'm follically challenged."

If I refer to you as a 'Sexual Intellectual', it's not a compliment, I'm letting you know you're a fucking know-it-all.

And of course, just because I haven't had sex in a month, it's not a dry spell, I'm just practicing Deferred Release!

Yes, I've seen fit to implement a Discretionary Deferred Release program myself for, oh, say, the last 30 days or so.

Not sure if this is PCSpeak, though. More like creative euphemism...which might be worth having a thread of its own.

I agree. I like to speak freely as much as the next person, but there are degrees of political correctness/manners necessary in a civilized society if we don't want people to behave in a politically incorrect way in response to some politically incorrect words spewed. M

Going back to this. I do about the same, wishing Merry Christmas to all, and I have already successfully offended two people on the site, one being Jewish and the other who hates men. At first I was bothered, and thought about saying Season's Greetings, but this sadistic side of me agreed that this was a day off of work for some businesses, people go singing (Even if you don't like them) and people are so loving (except to family members if you are hosting a party), so Merry Christmas to all and to all get drunk. =)

Yeah. As stated above, I usually wish people a Merry Christmas. I just have to wonder out loud though: Just WHAT is so bad about wishing someone "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays"? These are hardly newly-coined phrases, right? I have been hearing them all my life. And are they toxic phrases, full of bile and malice? Get a grip, folks! If someone says "Happy Holidays" to you, they're expressing something pretty nice, in my book, and the appropriate response might be something along the lines of "same to you", or maybe just "thanks". A smile might even be in order. Hatred and bitch-slapping? I don't think so. The guy wishing me Happy Holidays is hardly my enemy.

i don't think there's anything wrong with saying happy holidays or seasons greetings, just as there shouldn't be anything wrong with saying merry christmas. Just the fact that this year it's become an issue of sorts to say merry christmas is ridiculous to me....if someone said happy kwanza to me, eventhough i do not celebrate it, i would not get offended, i'd thank them for the happy wishes...that's all.

and Festivus for the rest of us baby!! lol gotta love that!

Apparently on the Political Correct side of things we are suppose to say "Seasons Greetings"

After all, the term Holiday devrives from the word Holy and implies a day of Religion. When you say happy holiday you are saying happy holy day.

Sooner or later, we'll see calendars changing Holidays into Celebration days.

I sure am glad I'm not with the main stream on the Political Correct Bull Shit. It's getting down right silly. Politically correct story time with Larry the Cable Guy is one of my favoriate parts of his acts. His comedy clearly tells us that we've gone to far on the political correct agenda.
