I am considering entering into a poly relationship. I am some what concernerd of the effects of living in a 24/7 poly relationship on my unmentionable. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how they have handeled unmentionables a poly relationship? What if anything do you tell your unmentionables And how do you handle thier questions about your unquie living arrangement or the questions of thier peers?

Hi aurora....

This is a great topic, but unfortunately, any reference to unmentionables will get your thread pulled because of the TOS of this site. You might want to ask this on the message boards over at www.polymatchmaker.com. Since they are geared towards mainstream poly families, this would be an appropriate discussion there (and if you do a search, you can see a lot of previous discussions on the topic).

Hope this helps!

best regards,
fate

ya know it is ashame that we cant talk about this with her...openly... because as vanilla people do not have sex or do things that are not cool infront of their unmentionables nor do poly people.. like i said i grew up in a house with my father and three mothers...and never once did i see them doing anything sexual.. my father was never nude infront of me however my mothers were all the time... but hey people take their children to nudist camps....and really i had it way better than any of my friends did.. i had the same father and the same three mothers my whole life... all held very good jobs... and some one always had time for me... i would say tho becareful speak to people who has lived with this family...make sure that you unmentionables are comfortable and forsure listen to them.. if they say something is making them feel weird.. and you know before i took my unmentionables into that kinda life i would have back ground checks on everyone in the house... this is not just your life but theirs as well...

My Boston partner and his wife have been poly for a long time and they have an unmentionable who is entering teens.

They don't have any other live in partners, that would obviously require some more discussion and openness. But they have "friends" over for weekends and evenings, though the keep the intimacy in the majority to when the unmentionable is away or asleep. They pretty much just make it a non-issue and have long established that adults will have their own adult lives.

They are open to questions and pretty much just assert that their relationship is solid. I personally have been pushing them to be more open with him, since a lot of his friends have poly parents as well and someone's going to start talking and I'd prefer they simply open up the dialogue now rather than letting the unmentionable form their own bad conclusions. But, their choice and they are taking a more "let him come to us" approach.
