Thank you for your input. I am constantly surprised at my assumptions of peoples physical appearence due to their writings... I actually find it quite intriguing and believe its a vital part of my own development as a person.

Peace and Love

how many people here value the image above the writing?
I value both.
If I were looking for friendships, in which case I would never think sex, than it wouldn't matter at all what the person looked like; but since it is what it is, I care about both. Comparatively speaking, I value what is written more, because no matter how good a person looks if the attitude or ability to express self is absent, than we probably would never connect.

And does being a BDSM site make a difference
Yes, for me BDSM is very much about the sensual/sexual, so yes it definitely matters for the same reasons listed above.
Hope I answered clearly, M

You did as always m'Lady M and as always, I am truely thankful and blessed by your input.

Was this really necessary? Unprovoked condescension and patronization which does nothing to further the topic itself?
I don't know if what I said was necessary, but that's what his post made me think, and I replied to maybe make him think about what he's saying before writing it down.
Most of what I say may not be necessary. I wonder if most of what you do is?

believe half of what you see...and none of what you hear.....we are a trusting lot I see...most of us want to believe...but the knowledge we've gained from past events..slant and taint the way we look at others...no longer sweet and innocent babes in the woods...we've been exposed to the harsh realities of the real world...take a passage from a book and send it as your own...cut and paste a picture and swear "Yes that's really what I look like"....I'm glad for the forum style opinion pages...here you don't need a face...you don't need fancy words...you just need to express your opinion...

Thank you for contributing to my question, Mstr Fury

Thankyou, ThankYou, ThankYou.
Your thoughts give birth to more thoughts from others. What you have said, gives much more to think about.
Your words and your wisdom are so needed on these boards.

Taik -> RE: Words or Pictures? (9/3/2005 1:28:01 PM)

I kind of skipped the post's in between because I wanted to respond to the OP's question.

I think words contain more value, you can paint a far more datiled picture in a thousand words, the the photo it's self can present. In terms of getting to know someone I prefer to have more then a few written conversations before pictures are exchanged. I want to get to know the person and then see them, not see them and then try to attach the person they are to the photo. Seeing the photo first leads one to make judgements and misconceptions.

I, along with others, think it's both. Though words, I would have to say matter much more.

eidited to add another thought... I'm a vocal person, beyond written word, or picture.... I *ideally* would rather hear there voice than see their picture.

AbstractSavant -> RE: Words or Pictures? (9/3/2005 2:39:37 PM)

I like the total package. I won't be likely to send a message to a profile that has no words, and am not likely to respond to a message from someone that doesn't have a photograph to at least somewhat verify their identity.

My ideal is someone that has a well-written and concise profile and an image or two of themselves to put a face with the words.

I thought about what I was saying before, during, and after I posted. While words do have their place, I still think the image is slightly better for the reasons I stated previously. I feel your ironic comments were a personal jab at me instead of directed towards my opinions. What is up with that? If you want to act like that, then I will say that I notice your picture doesn't show your face. That says a few words... ;)

I have the feeling you will respond to that negatively towards me, but just remember. I want you to think about what you say before you write it down.

Yes, I'm uglier than sin, and yet I find the strength to go on. [8D]M

luvdragonx -> RE: Words or Pictures? (9/3/2005 11:31:44 PM)

I gave some thought to your question, and I realized that I rarely, if ever, look for pictures. Since my online communication is primarily for idea exchange, I don't find myself wondering what the other people look like. Even now, after thinking about it, I'm more interested in what someone has to say than what they look like.

ElektraUkM -> RE: Words or Pictures? (9/4/2005 5:07:10 AM)

Interesting question. Since I come here mainly to see what other people think about things, and just to take part in or watch the debates, the pictures aren't really of much importance to me. But I do like to see pics of the people who are making the post. Just human nature I suppose, and I think it adds something to the experience of being on the boards. However if a poster has an avatar rather than a pic of themself, I find that that image easily becomes fthe visual representation of that 'character'... and I'm quite happy reading posts from procreating elephants, roses, and bears.

As for the words: I take what I read here (and anywhere) for what it's worth. Having been in a relationship with an arch manipulator, I'm well aware that it's possible even in real life for someone to create and 'live' a particular character if that suits one's purposes. I believe that it's just as easy to lie with words as it is to lie by putting up a stolen pic and passing it off as one's self.

So, words or pictures... I like the combination, to be honest... but I only 'believe' in anything up to a point.

I had our profile picture as the avatar but somehow it changed to it's present form. No big deal.
