FunDomsubcpl -> Um... remember copyright? (8/13/2005 9:11:32 PM)

OK.. I am going to take flack for messing up the fun. But copyright is the law and the rules on this list.

A lot of resent posts are clearly not produced by the poster. Many posted together are clearly not even from the same artist.

Please note the Section Guidelines:
"By posting an image here, you are claiming ownership of that specific image. If you do not own the copyright to the image you wish to share, you may not post it.

If you are unclear as to copyright law, please visit the following link: http://www.copyright.gov"

This is important for the future of this, or any web site, becouse US law is 'willfull breach of copyright is a $150,000 fine PER INCIDENT'. Wow, add it up! Yes real people do get hit with real big judgments for this. Besides it is more interesting to talk to people about thier own work.

If you can verify ownership or wish to report copyright violations contact CM with details or myself.
It will then be dealt with.

I absolutely agree with the OP. My line of work is photography, and for the last two years I've been part of an online movement working to promote copyright awareness, as well. I wouldn't want to see anyone using my work without my permission, even while it's a form of flattery. It's stealing. If you know the artist of a picture you love, write the artist and ask for permission to use it. Some will say no, some will say yes, but use some common sense and decency.
Think of it as property (since that's what it is). You wouldn't want a friend of yours to use your subbie without your permission, now would you?[;)]

Please take a moment to notify the moderator of whatever copyrights are being infringed upon. It is important to make certain that the artist gets the credit for the work produced, and that no one else gets credit for the work in question.

Thank you for taking the time to make this issue clear to the community here and for standing firm on what is right and proper for the artist and their copyrights.

In this forum one can only post their own work that they hold the copyright to. Even if you get permission from the artist, if it doesnt belong to you personally, it does not belong here. I dont believe we have come across anyone who has violated that. If anyone knows otherwise please report it.

Thanks,

ModOne

Okie dokie... Here ya go.

GentleLady has a Nene Thomas
MadameDahlia has a Renee Biertemphel
Fawne has a Der Hase
pinkpleasures has an Ogabel
mistoferin has an unidentified
tarnishedhalo has a Luis Royo
domtimothy46176 has an unidentified
themischievous1 has what looks like a screen shot of a video game

That's all of the Detective time I have for today. Most of the artists above DO give permission, but as ModOne posted, if it aint yours, don't use it. Luis Royo absolutely does not allow use of his work.

Hope this helps, guys. And I seriously don't want anyone to get in trouble, please. I really like this forum.

You did a great thing here...it takes a strong person to be truthful, and you should be congratulated by everyone here because you are helping to keep this forum safe and usable by people who really want to share their work with everyone here.

No one should be on your case or make you feel bad for coming forward with the truth. I don't like seeing anyone get in trouble for sharing artwork, but if they take credit for the work rather than simply sharing it...that is flat out wrong and it needs to be addressed here to keep the forums safe for everyone.

Thank you.

Farris

I believe that the post was directed about the specific works here on the art section. All the works within this section are works by the author/creator.

What you are speaking of are the avatars - different thing.
Over 80% of the avatars you mentioned are available from a legit avatar site that CM use.(If you wished to check it out you can)
And Luis Royo does allow certain usage of his work with permission granted.

*edit to add
Changing to 100%
A simple check shows that all the avatars mentioned come from the avatar selection - so are used in good faith.
I also think it would have been much better to have approached the Mods privately, or gone through the correct channels as Mods asked, instead of a failed public 'outing'.

Whilst I commend people for upholding copyright laws, I think it is only fair to try to gain the correct information first and not (unintentionally as it may have been) attempt to tarnish posters reputations and put the site at risk.

Peace and Love
