RiotGirl -> Ingrown hairs (8/6/2005 5:28:54 AM)

i suffered about a week ago (prolly not that long) a TERRIBLE outbreak of ingrowns. All those little hairs i plucked out of my pelvic, well 80% (prolly more like 60%) grew back as ingrowns. NOW, what is UP with that? i used rubbing alcohol and common sense says, that shaving leaves the hair pointy, creating less ingrowns, and plucking doesnt, but i heard the opposite.

Now the question being, i havent EVER heard of waxing causing this problem and if i am getting the hairs out by the root, whats the dang difference?

Master said something about heat and the pores being more open, but that doesnt make sense. Anyone care to help me figure out why plucking causes ingrown hairs while waxing doesnt?

Are you sure that they were ingrown hairs and not some other sort of rash? That seems like a high number of ingrown hairs.

Be well,
Julie

Waxing is supposed to help with ingrown hairs but it makes mine worse. I think if skin is dry it can worsen the situation as its tougher for the hair to get through. Try a good body scrub and lots of moisturiser.

It depends on your skin really. Hair is always easily removed when wet and warm. I use a combo of hot wet rag and a heating pad for as long as I can stand to help loosen the skin up. Or If I am shaving all over - I just take a very hot bath and sit submerged for a good 20 minutes.

Then I wash the area really good with unscented dial liquid, rinse really well, and use a pure, unscented cocoa/shea butter and Vitamin E mix on the area. I do this everywhere I shave. From pubic, to bikini, to legs and underarms. It keeps from rash and irritation and ingrown hairs. However, I tend to like to Nair away most my pubic hair and then shave or trim it.

Some women tho, there is nothing they go do to get "The porn star look", and will have to settle with just trimming. Also, it helps to have the hair (pubic) trimmed as short as possible before shaving, and make sure the razor or the blades are new. I would avoid anything that would irritate the area too - such are excessive scrubbing, scented soaps and lotions.

You could try waxing, since everyone is different. But, I would say get it professionally done, unless your really skilled in it.

You may need to exfoliate and reduce the skin thickness a bit.

I understand the ingrown are caused by the skin closing over the follicle entrance. If the shaft cannot break through the skin when it extends-this becomes a problem. Which then often get infected.

Here is a site I googled that explains a bit about this.

Thanks all. Trust me they are ingrowns alright as i went through and started digging hair out of my skin. Pleasant = ) <grins> Not only is plucking the pubic hair not very friendly, but digging the hair out of my skin to pluck it? Extremely friendly i say.

bah, ya know i dont get ingrowns in my eyebrows. Oh and i did get the porn star look, for about a week and then it went drastically haywire.

am back to shaving.. Might have to honestly look into a wax. LOL
