I read an article about the Gorean lifestyle and I STILL don't understand it. Can somebody put it in layman's terms for me?

Now you're just hopeless.

You've been told numerous times about the search function to find other threads on specific topics, you've been warned and even apologized for making gratuitous posts on topics.

I encourage people to ask sincere questions and don't consider it wrong to re-visit a topic. But you seem to simply have a thick head.

Write a note to Malkinius, he is all of pleasant, patient and knowledgeable.

Im willing to answer this, but not publically. Too much has already been said and not all of it was kind. If you truly wish to know more then e-mail my Master (RavenofPK) or myself.

Hello There,
My opinion is some want to read The Story of O, and some try to live it ,and find they like it that way.
If it's not your cup of tea (like it's not mine) you still have to respect the notion other people are completely content and happy living in the gorean context. It's no more right or wrong than what I like or you like, it's just different.

The beauty of life is like harmony the more notes the more beautiful it can be. Enjoy and relish the differences in people, they don't have to conform to your standards to be right for them.
Sincerely,
sub suzanne

Let me give it a try. I was in the Gorean lifrstlye for 4 1/2 years. Gor is a fanasty world created by the author John Norman. I has no modorn convienced like electricly heat Torches ans fire provide that. i wouls say 98% of the women are slaves and 98% of the men are Masters. Ther are a few male slaves and a few Free women. It had old fashioned ideas of honor and amonge free men death can be used to settle a matter of honor. any thing else i can tell you let me know.

Littleone

Oh by the way for a good working concept of Gor start at the beginning or you will be lost first book is Tarnsman of Gor. After that can do whhatr i did read them in any order you can find them . E bay i s a good place to look since they are out of print.

gretchen -> RE: Gorean (8/2/2005 12:46:41 PM)

It wasn't that hard....

Gore-What is it?

tally ho!!

ChainedAngel -> RE: Gorean (8/2/2005 3:04:30 PM)

I can understand why someone would keep asking this question. People explain the rituals, they explain where Gor comes from, they even explain if they see it as a valid lifestyle choice or just an occasional roleplay game.

I have yet to see anyone explain what it is about this particular work of fiction that makes someone base their entire life on it. Sure, it is a beautiful concept, but what actually drives people to live their life as a work of pure fiction?

Well...some people believe the bible is mostly fiction....something can resonate within us and teach us much, even if it's not based in actual facts. I'm not gorean, but I don't get the bad rap because it's based on fiction.

Hissweetshiv -> RE: Gorean (8/2/2005 3:52:08 PM)

Step 1: go to amazon on the web
Step 2: search for novels by John Norman
Step 3: order novels by John Norman
Step 4: read novels by John Norman

After doing all this you should understand Gor a little better. If you then have questions about specific aspects or protocol points, feel free to ask people who have offered you help.

nenakajira -> RE: Gorean (8/3/2005 10:41:46 AM)

That one I can try to answer. John Lange, while being hopeless in the world of writing fantasy/scifi, was actually a rather brilliant man. If youve never read any of his college papers (I believe he works at NYU, but Im not positive, Im out of touch lately) then you should.

Its not really the books.. its the philosophy behind the books once you remove all the fantasy bs. It was based on various cultures.. though alot of the actual M/s stuff was based on "The Natural Slave" from the greek philosophers.

So really... what Lange did.. is just put a name for a variety of beliefs that have always been there. "Gorean" ended up being the lable for ways that people lived before.. and beliefs that some cultures always had. Its as good a lable as any.

stormsfate -> RE: Gorean (8/3/2005 11:53:25 AM)

I agree, ChainedAngel. I understand very little of the Gorean lifestyle, and never really cared to until recently. I am more interested in understanding it now that I realize that people are taking the principles and living by them and its not the online fantasy stuff that made me laugh so hard I would almost pee in my pants. Its kind of like...oh...what's it called...:::thinking hard::: oh...Promisekeepers. I really like the philosophy behind that and am starting to suspect that the Gorean lifestyle has hidden depths to it. Perhaps one of these days I'll get around to reading the books (too bad I can't find them at the library) and will join in some discussions to understand it better.

best regards,
fate

I agree! My public school teachers told me they would be happy to answer any question I had, but only after I had made an earnest effort to find the answer myself. In other words, look it up!

If you Google Gor (wow, that sounds cool...googlegorgooglegorgooglegor...) you will find lots of info. There is also at least one site where you can download the books for free. If you would like that link, drop me a line.

I understand the concepts of Gor but it's not what I want. I am not into the sci-fi stuff. I know several people into this and I do like and respect them very much. They seem to keep to themselves instead of being involved in the community at large here..

Respectfully,
sultry

Guys and gals who believe the Bible is fiction are usually not the guys who are driven to live their lives wearing black.

Gor's kinda unique in that respect.

I mean, if you're going to live your life around a work of fiction, shouldn't it be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

(And yes, I know it's supposed to be a true story, but, c'mon.)

nella -> RE: Gorean (8/6/2005 5:02:43 AM)

Not realy txparanoid think how many pepole that wear star treck uniforms as their daly outfit and decorate their living room like the enterprise, and there is a million other such example. Many pepole choose a fiction world, either becouse they like the consepts, the philosophy or whatever and make a lifestyle out of it. And many do live by the bible, they are called christians, and do they wear biblical outfits, some do but most dont, but then, most Goreans dont wear the clothing described in Gor eaither, they wear normal clothing.

Zenar -> RE: Gorean (8/6/2005 7:02:24 PM)

What?!?!?? A post on Gor where there is not bickering and arguing and people being judgmental about what is and what is not Gorean?

Hell has frozen over!
