Well, I agree that there has been a ton of fiddling while Rome burns, but I don't think the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and especially how the Constitution was subverted in order to prosecute them, are any less important than a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. I think they're all crucially important. I was never very political until the Bush II reign. I really believe we are living in one of the most important times in American history.

While I completely agree with you about the war and all, it is, as fillepink says, a different thread.

i guess people are entitled to post whatever they wish, but i am amazed by the "banter" which seems to go on between some members over spelling or archania of the U S Constitution. Doesn't A/anyone care about the possibility of living under a constitution that has an amendment drastically abridging the rights of people who are not straight?

what causes people to ignore this issue? there's so much "fiddling while Rome burns". if you take issue with how the wars in afganistan or irag were commenced on constitutional grounds, by all means, start a thread. meantime, this thread was meant to educate and urge people to take action on behalf of gay people. i don't understand why that so easily got lost. fillepink

There is no educating to be done. Homosexuals do not have the right to marry, neither by means of the US Constitution or it's Amendments nor by the Bible. I have no problem with them practicing whatever they want behind closed doors. That is their right. If you want to speak of rights, that is the only genuine right they have when W/we speak specifically to the issue of homosexuality. When you start bringing it into the faces of everyone else and demanding that they rubber stamp your lifestyle choice, then it becomes everybody's problem.

you seem to be forgetting that W/we ALL have rights and your rights end where My rights begin.

Hi. I don't care. Thanks.

If someone has to tell you how smart (or great) they are, chances are they are not.

By that same token, heterosexuals do not have a right to get married. But we accept it as such, and the traditions of our country (equal opportunity, among others).

I do not see how the right of gays to marry impinges on the rights of anyone else. If you want to believe that homosexuality is a sin, you still have that right and you can teach it to your children or preach it on the street. But please do not use your belief to step on the rights of others.
