Greetings,

Ok, it may sound silly, but I need a larger bed. Oh, we can get along with a King size bed...in fact in the past we have all crowded into a Queen. But, I am thinking - bigger. Yes, its great to always have warm bodies to snuggle up to, but sometimes a little room would be nice too.

I am thinking that maybe "we take two Kings and put them together, sew the matress covers together to cover of the seperation between the two, and sew the sheets together. Probably need to tie the two matresses together to keep them from moving."

Has anyone ever modified a bed frame or have some other solution to my wanting for us all to be able to sleep together even when we could use a little more room?

Thanks.

Paul Joseph

A California King is bigger than a king...and there is another one that I can't remember the name of that is another expanded king. Also, if you don't want everyone in the bed, there is the option of putting some on the floor :)

Actually a Cali King is longer but slightly more narrow than a standard king...an eastern king is wider than both, but is a diffcult mattress to find. I once saw on TV a thing that can be used to tie two mattresses of any size together including connecting the bedframes together. After doing that you would have to have some custom sheets made but dont have to worry about the beds seperating.

You could have a custom-sized mattress, bed, and bedclothes, made for you.

I was looking through an antique auction catalog and I saw a 12'x15' bed
Of course where the average person would put a bed of that size I have no idea lol
but sounds like a great solution for a poly bed!

Aside from that I think a custom bed would be the best approach if you all want to sleep on the same bed.

One option to keep two matteresses from seperating it so build a framed pedestal bed, similar to an asian pedestal. it would have an approx 2-3" lip that the matresses sat in securing them together in the box.... you can make it as high or low as you ike, and being of solid wood.. tie down point can be easily added.

The concept of tying two matresses together is my backup plan. Several people mentioned custom matresses. That sounds ideal to me. Anyone know of a manufacturer that is willing to custom make a matress to larger dimensions than normal?

That's probably bigger than I can handle--have to have a room that can hold it and leave room to walk around. I was thinking more like 12'x10'. Was the catalog online or in print?

There are foam things you can put down to "connect" mattresses together.

Personally I find more than 3-4 people to a bed is just stifling, no matter if there's space or not. You got limbs, you got blanket issues, you got snoring, it just becomes too complicated. Sleeping is a personal thing for me.

If you do want occasional big sleepovers, then break out the sleeping bags and pillows and mattresses. If you want to get really elaborate, make a "sheiks room" with satin pillows, curtains and all sorts of floor bedding to have fun on.

Generally I think it's best if everyone has their own room and space to enjoy on their own. That way, you can snuggle up with others if you want, but everyone has their own bed and areas when they need it. Poly houses can get crowded!

You could also get a king sized waterbed frame and set the mattresses in that to obtain the right size. Most upscale mattress places will custom order beds because I am sure that athletes have to order them special sometimes for height.

How about a couple of queen size beds for people to sleep in... and wrestling mats all over the floor for everything else?

Lol, I remember when I had that problem : ). It was fine when my Mistress was working night shift. I'd sleep with my Master half the night, and then my Mistress would come home and I'd sleep on the couch (or sometimes my Master would). That way we all got snuggle time together. Then she quit her job and I ended up sleeping on the couch every night because it was impossible for all three of us to fit in a double bed, and they no longer treated me like a princess, because I had lived with them for a bit by then.

For a custom mattress, call on your local upholstery shop. Generally if a shop recovers and refoams sofas, they can build a mattress.

Several mattresses side-by-side work well. The new foam mattresses make this even easier. Just make sure they are at the correct height.

To end the blanket issue, just get King-sized blankets and cut them down the middle, then each person can fold back or pull up however they desire. Oh yeah, anyone sleeping in the middle needs to do a bit of acrobatics to get in and out from the bottom, but it's easy to learn and keeps ya flexible. :-)
