If person offers me a cigarette, a joint, a clove, a whatever, I'll smoke it with them. But I'm not a smoker. A "smoker" is someone who is addicted to whatever they smoke. If someone is addicted to something, they don't smoke it once a week. They buy smokes. They smoke them.
