ORIGINAL: FangsNfeet As someone who inserts cathaters on a daily basis into hospital patients, it's all about inserting it in while it's steril. Unless you're allergic, you also use iodine on the genitals before insertion Either way, depending on how long you want the foley to stay in, you must always replace the foley from time to time. And no matter how much you try to resterilize a catheter, I'd never reinsert a used one. It's like reusing a comdom Fangs, Are you suggesting that based on this note of yours, he should feel safe to go and do it? I hope Quiettopman goes with Suz/ShadeDiva's and my advice of going watching and doing a return demonstration before he tries this on the people who entrust him with their bodies/lives. I agree, placing a foley is not a huge deal once you've done it a few times... but here is the problem, if you don't know how to clean well, and maintain sterile tecnique, a urinary tract infection can tax the kidneys for one, can tranfer to the blood and cause "sepsis", and the person can die from that... So, please, go get training. Defintely, Don't ever re-insert a used catheter. M
