A number of times I have seen posts where a well meaning person has suggested a change of name, handle.

I cannot speak for others, but thought and effort was put into mine. I am Mistress Ylwa, pronounced "ya'll way". It is of Scandanavian origin and means "she wolf". It reflects my family, my love of nature, and my heart. I am sure it causes difficulty for some, who have no idea how to pronounce it. But did not select it for its beauty or aesthetic pleasantry. It was chosen as a personal symbol of myself.

Belladonna is also an herbal remedy, I was actually going to ask you how you got it because that's the first thing I thought of

lol acctualy the name is a mixture of things...i am a pagan but also a herbalist...i discoverd the herb long ago and liked it...Master just kept it as my acctual name with him.
Its a double meaning...
Italian: bella donna =beautiful woman
herb: belladonna= its a herb but if u have too much can kill hehe

so i can either be a beautiful woman...or deadly lol

I also answer to a lot of things, but my primary online handle is nuke718. It is NOT as some have suggested some kewl word with random numbers. It has a specific meaning in regards to my past, specifically to the time when I discoverd the lifestyle.

So while any name/handle will do in most cases, I think the most comfortable ones have a meaning for the holder.

being a Wiccan, I too searched carefully for a name that suited all My sides--in My wiccan ceremonies I was Lady Amethyst after the stone that holds My power key, but as time progressed, those two sides indeed became one--all My animals too have pagan god or goddess names to keep the circle unbroken from the outside-- and My horse is named Magick---Hathor has a marvelous Egyptian history AND a she devil side--yep that's Me!

Well, i have a fickle nature i guess, because i morph my nick from time to time as the spirit moves me. My current nick was supposed to conjure up the hospital volunteers in pink-strped uniforms but i misspelt it; and so now it is "candy" "stripper", LOL. However, being a stripper is another fantasy of mine, so i rather like the errant result.

A Dom friend of mine helped me choose it; that is usually the case, since i want to be sure it sounds like me -- very girly.

Have had my name for many years now and would not change it. It is as much my name as my vanilla one, in fact I often write under this name. It was given to me to reflect my charactor and fits me like a glove.

Thanks for the pronunication key, Ms Ylwa, I was saying your name wrong! It's very lovely, especially now that I know the meaning.

There are some folks out there who I would suggest they rethink the whole handle thing----the ones that have some kind of sex act as a name. If your handle is all about the {whatever} and nothing else, it implies that there is nothing to you beyond that.

I have taken some heat for using Mistress and being a newbie I have heard its something that is earned?

I aspire to be a Dominatrix but Sassy(nickname) doesnt sound so hot with that and neither did My real name.

Domme Sassy? Lady Sassy? Mz.Sassy I guess would work....So,I chose Mistress Sassy and I'm keeping it.

The only problem with Mistress...is that some people think I'm a rich guys girlfriend....lmao

I have a couple of nicks online that feel as much a part of me as my real name does. My Sir gave me the name Pita *pain in the ass* when we first decided to give us a try. I simply adore it and feel it is my real name now. I wanted my name here to be His_pita like on my other boards but this place don't let you do the _ thingy. And Hispita just looked dumb so since I am also his little girl I went for that. Was that more info then ya'll were wanting?

I am an ecclectic Pagan, and follow many paths. (Take what i can, and leave the rest) The dove was a sign to me, my messenger, from as long as i can remember in my childhood.

I have always had the name "dove" Sometimes it was "dark dove", or "dark mourning dove". When Master Hawk collared me, i knew that He could and would change my name. I begged to be able to keep the name dove to which He agreed, by naming me "Cherished dove" on the day that He placed the steel that now adorms the slender neck tht now belongs to Him.

Hawk is His totem animal.

I always use Orlando, it is a pseudonym but one which a sufficent number of people know that some call me that even though they know my birthname. The Mars bit cames was just a bit of frippery - Orlando of Mars has a nice ring don't you know!

It's not what you did to get the name but what you do after you have it that makes it meaningfull or go away for those past embarrasing moments.

My name came from others - just as my birthname.
I would be the same even if I had no name.

I have difficulties understanding why people evolve names often - An occasional change yes, but constant evolution of names sparks concerns for me, like a red flag. Unless the name alters because of roleplay reasons - then its just hot!

Peace and Love

Hmmm... you'd have to ask my folks how much thought went into my name... Padriag actually is my first name. Which may leave some wondering whats with the "BardicHeart" in my avatar. That's easy... thats a nick I use online, its also my domain name. I was dubbed that by a friend one night when we got off onto poetry and I started quoting poems from memory, then quoting some on request and finished up with Poe's "The Raven." After which my friend said I had a poet's hear... and since a bard was a kind of Irish poet... well... bardic heart... and there you are.

Belladonna is a remedy for... life. It's a deadly poison, sometimes used as an abortant. Also called Deadly Nightshade.

Belladonna is also used in three recipies for traditional flying ointment I have, which rubbed on the skin give the halucenagenic feeling of flying.

To some a name is just that a label (A rose by another name is still a rose), to others, a name is chosen to reflect their personality. In some cultures and beliefs to know the "True" name of a thing/person is to be able to command/control them, which is why they also have a use name as well. There are none alive now who know the name given to me by my Grandmother at the time of my birth. I have a name i use with in the Art Magiclal and all Occult Areas except Lodge. It was chosen because I'm a celt and the spelling was chosen due to the numeroligy of both western and cabalistic traditions. I have a "Common" name given to me by my parents. And my Iron Bear name was given to me by my Lakota Blood Brother and his family after I avenged the gang rape of the 18 year old daughter of a member of my extended family. It to have a multi level meaning, not the least to be my totem is the Great Bear in bioth the Celtic and Native American terms of reference. Names are somewhat akin to titles and modes of address. Some are formal and some are more casual. They often apply to a stage or stages of your life journey. Some names are more appropriate to use in specific circumstances than others and not everyone will use the name you prefer. Life is like that.
