ORIGINAL: Oberonrex Others have already said it, but as someone who uses rifles, pistols and other implements of destruction -- NO. A blank can and will kill you just as dead as a bullet at close range. At semi-close range they can and will do impressive damage. The actors mentioned are just a couple of the people killed by blanks (yes, Lee was killed by a blank), and more have been injured. You also have to factor in noise and hearing to anything like that. This is not something I would do with anyone for whom I cared in any way, shape, or form. The only fun mindfuck I have ever done with blanks was vanilla: At the range, I slipped blanks into the pistol of someone who was busy bragging to the ladies about what a great shot he was with said pistol... The look on his face when nothing hit the target (and the ladies smiled) was priceless. Man, that is a great mind fuck. Wish I had thought of that one once or twice for similar reasons but the audience would have been other special opps folk….. I’m going to remember that one for the next time I’m on the range with some of the same crew. quote:
ORIGINAL: RiotGirl now while i can see what the OP was saying. And i can see how the mindfuck could be done safely. Place a gun on a table, a bullet, tell the sub "we're gonna play russian roulette" blind fold her, load a blank instead, point the gun AWAY FROM her, and move away so the cartridge popping out doesnt hit her.. aim at something that can take the impact of the blank. and pull the trigger until the blank gets fired. All the while saying "oo got off lucky that time.. 4 empty rounds left, one bullet.. you think its in the next round?" and so on as you click toward the blank. Now i can see that as being the ultimate mind fuck. As for ever ALLOWING it to happen. Heck no. Guns are to be respected and not played with and if anyone were to "play" with a gun in my presence i'd immediately lose respect and put myself a safe distance from them. (like not in their presence) And as in play, i mean to handle a gun in any way shape or form as to what it was not made for. Its made to kill. Dont act like its not! but still.. i can see what the OP was saying My version of the explanation of the theory of relativity is that guns don’t kill, harm people; People do. E.G. Place a loaded gun on a table in an empty room. The relative danger factor to life and limb from that gun is 0%. The closer a human being moves closer to the gun the higher the relative danger factor to life and limb from that gun increases from 0% upwards as the human moves closer to the gun it reaches 100% if and when the human being picks up the gun, cocks it and points it at another person. I grew up with a shotgun in one hand and a fishing rod in the other, (typical country kid in Australia). I was taught (at times painfully at the end of a brass ferruled gun cleaning rod) good and safe gun practices. I’ve never shot anyone I didn’t intend to and until three years ago I was required by law to be armed 24/7. In all those years I have never lost any respect for any weapon bladed or other wise and the damage they can do.
