I have heard much about TPE but i am not sure exactly what it means. I know it stands for Total power exchange but what does that mean? Thanks for any help ypu can give me.

thats how i grasp it.

but as a male?...for ME? eh so far i take care of THEM and no one takes care of me...i take care of myself.

but at over 50, i have been around long enough independant i never found out what being taken of is yet in my life.

Definitions for TPE vary, and some people will say that TPE is an impossibility. The following is from an article by Sar of Treve but I will follow his statements with my comments (in green).

Total power exchange as I define it has the following characteristics:

- Consent is for an unspecified period, and the submissive does not have the right to withdraw consent. (which means that the slave's only choice is to stay with the dominant or to leave the relationship totally)

- The exchange is without explicit limits. All activities are the right of the dominant, but moral obligations remain. (which means your wishes don't matter, and will not be consulted unless the dominant decides to ask you. You have to trust that your dominant will protect and care for you.)

- The exchange is not limited to certain times, but is a fundamental thread running throughout the relationship. (24/7, 365 days a year - but the dominant will set rules for behavior when in vanilla company)

Obedience becomes thoughtless in the surrendered slave. Orders from the dominant are unquestionably obeyed without regard to their content. This change represents a significant increase in the dominant's level of responsibility in the relationship. (this may be a goal rather than actual practice. But the slave is considered to be actual property, and should never object or hesitate to a request/order from the dominant.)

now THERE is where "I" have trouble.

i dont trust anyone i dont know....i have always watched my own back all my life since even kindergarten...and i care for myself....i am over 50,,not 15.

i am not a native english speaker, but i really have a problem with the definition of TPE

in taking the words of total power exchange i am always wondering myself what does the exchange mean?

my experience so far is that mostly its more TPC - total power change!

even in mention that it does vary - the words does mean power exchange...

exchange means for me there is an exchange like the word tell.. an exchange of power???

if so then from both sides, like from sub and Dom?

otherwise it would be a change - the sub gives up the power... and thats it.

for me honestly really confusing - smile -

Your response is a bit bemusing to me, as I can't think of why anyone with any sense would offer themself to someone they don't know. In this type of relationship, you had better get to know who you are offering yourself to before hand, or you could be in for years of misery.

LittleOne35, you might also do a search on "absolute bdsm" for more information. I won't get into definitions here, because as you have seen, they can vary widely.

The way I understand it is the slave gives up everything for her Master, in exchange He is to protect her and use her the way He wants to.
I agree that is would be almost impossible to do in real life, but I guess there can be some exceptions.

TPE = Total Power Exchange

Other versions of this idea are

APE = Absolute Power Exchange

TPT = Total Power Transfer

And my preferred acronym, UAT = Ultimate Authority Transfer.

Because I don't give up any power when I become owned, and I certainly don't get power back from him. I transfer my authority to him.

And in my relationship, it's not the Owners job to protect me.

I agree Emerald. My Master doesn't protect me either, I do. It would be hard for him since we live in different states!

Uh oh...I can tell I'm going to change the whole tone of this thread...lol. Ah, well. It is different than other relationships in that many of us believe that it is the last free choice we will make. There is no out clause...no "oops I changed my mind". Unless and until you are released....you are owned and don't have the right to walk away.

Now before you start with the illegalities of holding someone against their will, etc., I suggest you consider the mental aspects as these bonds can be much stronger than chains.

I do realize that some people feel that they can change their mind and release themselves if they want to. That's fine....but if you can walk away, its just not absolute.

Ok ok ok ok i was thinking about jumping in

But i dont feel qualified to do so, being my experience is very limited to others who have been in TPE for years upon years. = ) From what i know, Fate seems to have a very good grasp on it!

And really folks, this isnt a debate about the LETTERS. So why get into it?

OK LIKE YOU CANT CHALENGE THE EXCEPTED USAGE THIS WAY. IT HAS BEEN DETREMINED THAT THIS IS WHAT TPE MEANS AND EVERYONE HAS TO LIVE BY THOSE RLUES OR ELSE THEY ARE NOT REALLY INTO BDSM
