I agree it goes to the death of commin sense and money hungry people and some people are just the type it seems, sad but true.

But on the other side it was late and they should have said who it was that late at night. so ther eis something to be said for it.

As the saying goes - No good deed goes unpunished.

Fortunately there are still people in the world willing to be punished if that's what it takes to do good deeds.

I suspect the woman who sued is a walking victim. We all know the type, it doesn't matter what anyone does they will always find fault because they NEED to feel like victims. Want to bet that woman loses any social interaction she may have had with her neighbors?

I'd be willing to bet that she will find herself a lonely island in the middle of a caring neighborhood for her insistance on being a victim. Then she'll complain about that, too.

Just when you think you have heard it all........
Not one mention of how these girls should be commended for a nice act in a time when so many teens are in the press for their "not so nice" ones. This world has become sick. I have to wonder that if the situation were that someone had been involved in an accident outside of her home and knocked on that door for someone to summon emergency help, would they have also been sued. Some people need to get a life.

I got the impression from the story that she was already emotionally isolated, and maybe overwhelmed by her responsibilities of caring for her mother and raising a daughter.

Suing was the wrong thing to do, but the girls (18 and 17 y.o.) should have known better than to be knocking on strangers doors at 10:30 at night if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

Yes, sometimes it seems no good deed goes unpunished. What a sad story.

We all have responsibilities in our life. It is a sad state of affairs when we can be sued based on the fact that another person is paranoid or doesn't have the skills to cope with everyday life. Just by the fact that I have a front door tells me that there may come a time when someone may knock on it. I, for one, would love it if that knock brought me home baked cookies out of the kindness of someone's heart.

This is a sick society. Once upon a time people used to do this sort of thing - drop off cookies or homemade soup. But "I" "Me" "Mine" has become the pervasive mentaility, and right along with it is the paranoia over what can be 'taken' from us. She's watching too many crime shows on TV - out in the middle of rural nowhere.

It probably was a bad idea to plant the nefarious cookies on her stoop after dark. But come on. They were kids, and they were cookies. Shame on the judge for ruling in her favour.

This story has been just burning me all day. I just find it so hard to believe that this made it though the court system in our country. What a huge waste of taxpayer monies! Anyway, I decided to try to see if there was at least something I could do to help the girls recoup their losses and hopefully restore some of their faith in humanity. I sent off an email to the reporter who wrote the story and this is the response I got back:

Due to the large volume of calls and emails about the cookies story I am
unable to personally respond to each message. I typically like to answer
each one personally and will do so eventually if time allows.

In the meantime, thanks for your interest. If you would like to send a
message or assistance to the girls, they can be contacted at
[email protected].

In response to popular demand, they have set up a P.O. Box to receive mail
and donations. Their court costs have been covered, so senders can designate
whether the funds should go the girls' own college funds or to the "Never
Forgotten" scholarship fund in honor of the Columbine High School shooting
victims.

Send mail to: Lindsey Zellitti and Taylor Ostergaard
P.O. Box 2528
Durango, CO 81301

Thank you,
Electa Draper

I dunno. It depends on where you live and what time of year it is. Where I live, that isn't an unreasonable thing to do.

I get frustrated by things like this, because, at least from my perspective, it's highly representative of how society treats good kids. Everyone is taught to believe that teenagers are pretty much horrible, immoral, irresponsible creatures.

Those of us who don't live up to the stereotype are often treated as if we do. (No, I'm not a teenager anymore, but as I still look like I'm abuot 17, it still applies) It's frustrating.

OK i got it to open this time. Personally i think it was nice of the kids to give away cookies but i think it should of been done in the day time. I don't think a lawsuit was necessary though. I wouldn't eat homemade cookies a stranger gave me, but maybe they knew everyone they gave them to.
