oh hey I have an interesting idea, I saw about making tea how you could freeze some tea an put it aside for ice cubes so that when they melt it wouldn't water down your tea, you think you could do that with coke

Morning Feline! Yes you can, in fact you can freeze almost any liquid but alcohol---poo no martini ice cubes---it just takes more time, btw they need to be used quickly as they will go flat---have fun!

Freezing Coke would produce ice cubes that wouldn't "water down" the drink, but you are exactly right, the melting cubes would lack carbonation so the resulting mixture would still be "rich" but would be somewhat flatter in taste.

Water doesn't have carbonation so would there be a noticeable difference? I mean the taste "drop off" from adding water to a Coke and adding Coke ice cubes with or without carbonation I would think would be significant. I realize that there would be a small drop in carbonation but no more than the result of regular ice cubes.

Get yourself some of those little plastic ice cubes. You pop them in the freezer, then throw them in your drink. When they melt, the liquid is kept contained by the plastic and you don't get water down.

Alternatively, you can dip a metal tray filled with coke into liquid nitrogen, freeze it instantly and save those bubbles.. but I think the plastic ice cubes are more cost effective. ::chuckles::

No more, yes, but the idea seemed to be to avoid the drop off completely.

There have been a number of recalls for that type of product. It seems they are occasionally filled with local, unpurfied water and can leak. Check the "made in" statement on the box.

It is a small risk, but I once went from 200 to 117 pounds from drinking Coke with the wrong ice in it. Believe me, it is not a diet you want to try.

I'm a die hard Mountain Dew drinker...and there is NOTHING worse than watered down Dew...I buy the 20 oz plastic bottles and partially freeze them to avoid this...oh and I have learned to like warm Dew too.

I've seen beer mugs that can be frozen that have the liquid in between the sides....

Why not drink the soda faster? Or less soda?

When I order a soda, I do so with no ice. After all, the fountain already makes the drink cold. So you have more of your cold soda and no worries about your drink watering down.

Hehehe. That's exactly where my mind went too.

By the way, has anyone ever had a beer slushy? You know, the beer you leave at the back of your fridge too long? Ick! Cola will do that same thing. The carbonation gets lost in the process and you end up with a nasty, flat slushy. Blech.

Yup me too FNF I don't like ice in my drinks when I go to restarants because it cuts down on the amount of your drink. And when you go to fast food places and it's a buck 99 for drinks you're ripping yourself off not getting as much as ya can in the cup

Unless I am out, I usually don't use ice. One less trip to the fridge. Besides, when it is really hot out the drink goes down too quickly to warrant ice.

I once had a doctor tell me that gulping down too many iced drinks is hard on your system....so no ice.

Except for my Scotch. Cubes made from bottled water, then crushed. Hm hmm.
