Bangkok - A young Thai man lost his penis to his knife-wielding wife, who then forgot to bring his severed member with him to hospital, fatefully delaying a re-attachment operation on Monday.

Sornlam Yotbanya, 24, had a heated argument with his wife Rungnapha Pongalee, 32, on Sunday night about his mistress, then went to bed and was rudely awoken hours later when his wife sliced off his member.

In Sornlam's haste to get to Bangramrung Hospital in Chonburi, 60km south-east of Bangkok, he left his penis behind in his bedroom.

Bangramrung Hospital dispatched a nurse to retrieve the severed member for a reattachment operation. Although the nurse packed the penis in ice, too many of the cells had died by the time it was delivered to hospital, killing all hopes of a revival.

Thai hospitals, especially Bangkok's Police Hospital, have achieved some fame for their high success rate with penis reattachment operations, providing they are carried out swiftly with all the parts in place.- Sapa-dpa

I would hope that penis reattachment operations aren't so common elsewhere, so the fact that Thai hospitals have enough experience with it to have high success rates is worrisome. Remind me to never date a Thai girl.

Did a little research on this (isn't the internet a wonderful thing!) and actually found this even more disturbing news item regarding this Thai activity. I also removed it from my list of places I want to visit...

Chopping off an unfaithful man’s penis is becoming an increasingly popular form of revenge in Thailand. The angry women will go to unusual lengths to insure the penis can’t be reattached.

While not unique to the kingdom, penis severing has been honed here to its most devastating effect through a heady mixture of routine infidelity, assertive womanhood and a national cuisine that lends itself to a kitchen full of sharp knives.

The men are now fearful of a rash of Thailand’s most notorious crime of passion, according to a surgeon who has stitched back many a male member for grateful patients.

The phenomenon has become so widespread that doctors have had to keep up with increasingly inventive and angry wives and lovers who want to prevent the offending item from being reattached.

‘They boil them, feed them to ducks, flush them down the toilet, bury them and have even tied them to hot air balloons and let them float away,’ Dr Surasak said.

Ok but what is being done to the females who do this afterwards? Is it becoming increasingly popular because they are not being punished for it? Would it just be "battery"? *shrugs* attempted murder?

Damn, realizing that I'm old enough to remember hearing that song on the radio (AM Radio at that!) is traumatic. But by being able to remember the words is consolation that senility hasn't set it - at least not completely...

I am only 36 but I can remember when cars had AM only radios - and how wonderful it seemed when they came out with AM/FM radios as standard equipment - and then (oh joy!) the advent of AM/FM/Cassette

Sometimes I sit and wonder what it must be like for my 90 year old grandmother - all the change she has lived through
