Congratulations, knees!!!!! quote:
ORIGINAL: KennelSlut The nerve which carries sensory information actually comes up through the middle of the nipple. That's why surgeons are able to insert breast implants through an incision at the border of the areola, without damaging the nerve supply to that area. To actually damage the nerve - deep tissue damage would have to occur. Not so likely with clamping - but does occur with piercing every now and then. What may happen to decrease sensitivity in the nipple after repeated... let us say "rough use", is what amounts to a "callous" formation- the body's natural response intended to make nursing more comfortable. Women who are planning to nurse and anticipate problems with discomfort, are instructed to rub a rough wash cloth over their nipples several times a day in order to "desensitize" the area. This same reaction could also occur with frequent clamp use. This information, to the best of my knowledge, and experience, is actually correct. In addition to that, "roughing" the nipples also keeps them clean and open, when lactating. To keep them soft and sensitive, get some nipple, or udder cream. It works like a charm. It is also very useful for keeping them healthy. Broken tissue can cause infection before you are aware that there is a problem. I use it after bathing, play, etc. Just one of those two minute things that feel good, and keeps us in good working order.
