According to my subs the pain will go from Pleasurably intensive pain to totally unbearable agony when it is time for it to come out. Lots of lube is of course the key for longevity!

I have no idea of the stats, I can say I've worn one for 24 hours before. Even after that amount of time it wasn't uncomfortable. Although I'm sure the size makes a big difference.

They can be worn for as long as you can hold them. Just don't let them stop you from having bowl movements. Compaction is not fun to deal with unless you really want to suffer or your Master/Mistress likes unpacting you. Best of luck with that scenerio as it can cause risk so stay close to a Hospital that can fix any problems quickly to avoid any bowl rupture. Then you're really fucked.

With the obstruction issue out of the way, we now turn towards Hemroids. When you see bleeding or have that itching sensation it might be time to take out the plug. As already suggested, use lube. Also invest in buying some creams/tucks for rectal rash, hemroids, and such.

This last paragraph will be on rectal tearing. After all how big of a butt plug are you talking about? One that you have sqeeze to keep in, fits just right, or you have to walk kinda wide leg to keep from grunting? Whatever size the prefference is, just remember that bleeding and having your stomach filled with shit are your best indicators to pull the damn thing out.

that's all I have to off on this topic. may it guide you into knowing what's best for your safety.

This a repeat answer, but it depends on the size and how long you feel comfortable keeping it in. Lots of lube helps, but when it is time for it to come out, you'll know it!

Fangs-
I'm not sure where you're coming from here. Of course, if you have to poop you should take the plug out and go, but I don't think that wearing a plug would give you a bowel obstruction. Things have to be pretty severe to get to that point. Also, I don't see why wearing a butt plug long term would require you to stay near a hospital. It really isn't all that risky.
Also, a plug will not give you hemroids. (sp??) Pushing too hard when you poop from constipation or diarhea will give you hemroids. There is no need to invest in creams or pads for butt plug play.
A plug or any other anal toy should never make you bleed. Any anal activity that goes beyond mild discomfort should end right then and there. That is one of the reasons that I do not recommend anal-eze or any of those other products for anal play. The anus and rectum are very delicate and care should be taken not to injure them.
I hope that I've cleared up some misconceptions that you have. If you have any other questions about anal play or guidelines, please post or mail me on the other side.

As for the topic at hand-
You could probably wear a plug forever as long as you took it out to poop and kept your asshole lubed. The anus does not make any lubrication of it's own, so keeping it lubed is essential. When I'm asked about long term anal plugging at work (I've had people ask about all day scenes and punishment scenes) I usually tell them to re-lube every 3-4 hours with a nice glycerin free waterbased lube for women (Slyquid is my fave!!) and some nice silicone for men (Eros is my other fave!!). Some women are sensitive to silicone lube and some are not. It is def. the best choice for anal, but not always possible to use it due to the sensitivity.
Good luck!!

That was my thinking as well. Although some times you just don't feel up to the argument. It seems fruitless.

I can see hemmoroids if you're talking about that extra large plug we've all seen though.
You know the one...like 5 inches tall and maybe 6 inches around.

Gloria-
I'll have to look into that. I don't think that it would, but I do know that putting super large things in your butt constantly (like the extra extra large plug) could result in a prolapsed rectum. There is a group of people out there that aspires to have a 'rosebud' or prolapsed rectum. It's a badge of honor in some sexual communities. I don't think that normal (even prolonged) wear of a butt plug with proper lube and comfortable insertion would be an issue. Most of the people that aspire to rosebud status are enthusiastic 'handballers' or anal fisting enthusiasts.
Extreme penetration is a huge fetish for people. You should see some of the stuff that people buy at the store!!
Also, you're right about it being a bit much sometimes to be 'up to the argument'. I just didn't want misinformation out there. So many people are weird about their butt, and it isn't dangerous. Fangs' post made it sound like you would be ruining your body, and you won't if you practice safe anal play.
YOU have a spendid day!!

personally when i insert an anal plug into my slave, i make her use a full gallon size enema bag first, then we move into the lubrication and insertion phases. also, if you plan to use anal plugs long term...there are some that have small holes in the plug at the tip, such as these rectal dilators in a kit from extreme restraints http://www.extremerestraints.com/stat/kl710.html

these small holes in the tips prevent pressure build up, unlike all the other plugs which are solid silicon/rubber/etc.

enjoy.

That's a good point. I guess if you go slow enough it would never cause a hemmoroid. Going to fast would. The cause of a hemmoroid is pushing too hard..with someone too large to get out. Would be the same way going in.

I've never seen a prolapsed rectum but then again I've never had a desire to do so either.

Gloria-
They're pretty scary, but considered a badge of honor in some communities. (I don't get it, but whatever floats your boat, right???) I was going to post a picture, but didn't want to freak everyone out. Weightlifters get them, also, from straining. You can get hemmoroids that way and it can lead to a prolapse. If your curiosity gets the best of you, type "prolapsed rectum pictures" into your search engine. It's a bit scary, and there are different degrees of prolapsed-ness.
My asshole is intact and I intend to keep it that way. Lube, lube, lube, patience.....

I didn't make my reply all that clear in pointing out that some ppl do take it to far. If not the sub then the Dom who feels that one must wear the Butt Plug for X amount of time.

Any how, as the question is "how long should a plug be worn?" I ask all who have worn them What's the longest amount of time you have worn a butt plug?

Perhaps this will help the starter of this thread a better idea.
