i personally enjoy deeeep penetration along the lines of 18" double dildos, but i worry about the health implications. How far can one penetrate before hitting something dangerous assuming there's no severe pain, the toys flexible, clean, and not excessively thick?

It varies from person to person. Some enjoy the deep and other don't. Like you said, pain would be the best way to know. Doctors insert flexible hoses pretty deep, but if something stops you from going farther, stop immediately.
