abnormalme: If you would like a human voice to speak to regarding immigration laws vs. the INS's keypad bingo, check out the link I am including. They are a Boston based immigration advocacy group who may have some connections in your area. They handle immigration law and assist in immigration from all countries, despite the name. You will be able to speak to person who will point you in the right direction. Immigration is going to be tough for your friend. If your friend just happens to fall in love and marry an American citizen in the US, NOT in Canada, than the process is easy. Immed. green card, after two years of being married they are granted perm. residency. At which time, if for some inexplicable reason the marriage is failing, they could seek a divorce. < i believe it is still two years, but may have changed in the last four years> If they were to marry in Canada it is a long and tedious process. There are two other ways for a Canadian to get residency, but it is tedious and takes a long time. http://www.iicenter.org/index.html mbmbn PS: perm residency is not US citizenship and citizenship is not a requirement of perm. residency.
