Status: offline 		What do people do about health insurance for subs and/or slaves, especially subs or slaves not married to Master when he has health insurance from work? What about multiple subs/slaves in one household? What about subs/slaves who have children living with them from previous relationships? Sorry if this is a repeat topic, but I searched and didnt see it anywhere.

Status: offline 		The short answer is that it depends on your employer, your insurance carrier and the state where you live.

The longer answer is that while i've never known a company that would carry multiple partners. my company will pay for partners of the same sex, but not different sex partners. Children, if they're your dependents can often be carried on your insurance, but that's no guarantee either. When i worked in HR i used to tell our employees that if they could claim them as dependents on their tax forms they stood a good chance of the insurance companies approving their coverage. However, with the health care crisis being what it is these days, the rules are changing all the time, both in what the company will provide/pay for, and what they make available to their employees, no matter who's paying. It's best for you to check with your HR people (no need to call them subs/slaves, partners should be enough).

Status: offline 		Here, I could, were I a little more financial, get Private Employee Health Insurance. Failing that the public health syystem will cover most thihngs.

Jim,
beth is covered under my company's health insurance. We live in CA as do you. I think the only qualification was we had to be co-habitating. beth is also covered under my auto insurance. Talk to your personnel department, or direct to the insurance representative and ask them about the open enrollment period and to get the appropriate form. Careful about any claim. I think there was a waiting period. Coverage also differs by carrier for pre-existing conditions. However, under a group plan, coverage can NOT be denied.

Status: offline 		I worked enough temp hours when I moved in with Master that I was able to keep my own coverage at a very reasonable rate. Then, when He went back on the road, I went to work full time and had my own coverage. When I quit that job for nine months, He paid for my medical insurance under COBRA. However, that coverage expired in December and I am currently without any coverage. We've discussed the issue, and the only choices we have is either for me to go back to work full time, or for us to get married. I'm not sure what we're going to do.

I'm on his auto insurance, and I'm his beneficiary on everything, anyway. We might as well be married, but for some reason, that's a problem for Him.

There are domestic partnership laws in California. You have to be co-habitating but also meet certain criteria - length of time together, among some other things which i am not aware of. i doubt someone could file for more than one domestic partner, however. Might be worth looking into. Again, as others have stated, it depends on where you work and what they cover. my company does not cover domestic partner insurance.

Status: offline 		If you check around with different carriers, you can purchase a single policy, although it will be pretty costly. Of course, the higher the deductible, the lower the premiums, which can be beneficial if the policy-holder is young and healthy.

On the east coast, I have heard of "low-cost" insurance for under $200 a month, with deductibles of $1000-2000. As always, you get what you pay for.

Status: offline 		well luckily for me i have my own insurance and live near him but not with him. As long as im employed through my present employer i will be covered at no cost to myself. My children have different insurance.

My company has a clause for "a partner" who must receive at least 50% of My support but need not be resident in the home full time, but nothing for children---we also have a clause to cover senior parents.

Status: offline 		As said- it completely depends on your situation, carrier, employment, legal issues and more.

What's important is that the people involved DO talk about it and make sure it's taken care of smartly. In my current situation, it's much simpler for each of us to individually pay for our own through whatever work situation we have.

Yeah, but the thing is... He talks about it all the time. If He ever DID decide we're getting married, I probably won't believe Him, because I've been hearing "when we get married" stories for nearly six years!
