I see a lot of references in posts where people refer to the furry community.
I have no clue what this is. Is it related to BDSM in any way?
Could someone explain or point me in the right direction in terms of links.
For some reason I'm really brain dead today and can't seem to function in search mode.

There's actually a LOT of "kinks" that don't fall into "BDSM"

Furry is its own sub-culture in itself. I'm not a furry so I'm not going to try and give a precise definition, but one of my partners is and I know other people in the scene who are.

Furry Info Page

"1.1) What is a furry?

Furry is a word which has probably been asked to do a little
too much work. It has numerous meanings, and it's not particularly
easy to find two people who agree on the precise definition for any of
them. The original two definitions we supplied in the first version of
the FAQ are:

1. an anthropomorphic animal character. i.e. an animal with human
characteristics.

2. a human who relates strongly, in whatever way, to the idea of the
characters outlined in the previous definition. This may involve
anything from a person who simply enjoys viewing furry fanzines or
films, to someone who actually desires to be a 'real' furry, or
believe that they are literally a non-human trapped within a human
form.

But not all ALF regulars are interested in anthropomorphics.
Some are largely unaware of the 'furry fandom,' or are simply
uninterested in it for a variety of reasons. Most of us who created
ALF were 'fans' of one kind or another, and this coloured our view-
point perhaps more than we realised.
So, after much discussion, we'd like to add a third
definition, one that tries to include everyone who has made ALF a
home.

3. a person with an important emotional/spiritual connection with an
animal or animals, real, fictional or symbolic.

We would recommend reading the FAQ for alt.fan.furry, which
provides much more thorough descriptions of and information about
furries in general. This can be found, along with a great deal of
other furry-relayed stuff, at PeterCat's page at

http://www.tigerden.com/infopage/furry/"

Every Furry *I* know feels a spiritual bond with their animal that I would classify as the same as those people.

However I think it would be safe to say that "all furries practice that particular spiritual practice, but not everyone who practices those particular spiritual practices are furries."

Seeing that episode was actually the first time I'd heard or seen anything about furries; it was kinda cool in that it's nice to see that there are some new things under the sun to me :-)

How do animals have sex?

And also, like humans do, there are all sorts of divisions and "types" of furries, one of the common being "plushies"

I think I have that right, I don't know if plushies consider themselves types of furries or a completely separate culture.

He knows a lot about everything. While there's a lot of interesting details to know about any one sub-culture, most cultures and sub-cultures follow a very common and easily discernible pattern of behavior and personality types. Once you've gotten the observations down, it's pretty easy to apply them in other sectors.

The CSI episode was a 'rough mans guide to furries'....

Techinically it was an episode on 'plushies' - which is slightly different but close... although it did a reasonable job in trying to explain the difference for a fictional primetime program.

From a personal point of view... furries and plushies are one of my 'things'... I find them exceedingly exquisite...
