Have any of you attempted to bring a slave from outside the United States into your household? I ask this since our board here warns us of scams of this nature. How do we as a community ascertain that someone is as they say.

Talk to a lawyer. It sounds like asking for trouble, but if you're serious about it, make sure your ass is covered.

This sort of thing as been around since at least the 60s with advertisements in such publications as Latent Image.

My policy is if someone wants to come to me she can pay her own way. It's amazing how fast the interest fades when that proviso is put forward.

Even if someone is desperate enough to want to pay travel expenses, he or she should wait until the person arrives and then reinburse.

All this is doubly true when someone contacts you from outside the US.

Make that an immigration lawyer. It's a very specialized field and most general practice attorneys don't know much about the field. (It doesn't stop many of them from charging for advice, though)

Actually, I wouldn't start with an immigration lawyer, because the potential legal problems involve more than just immigration. I would start by finding a kink-friendly attorney in your area and laying out the whole scenario. Then you'd get a road map on how to proceed (though I assume most lawyers would advise against pursuing something like this).

One main Question came to our minds here Down Under MDkitten is that what if the person is from Collarme does this change the thought or make a difference as even those here are trusted to tell the truth in what they put in their Profile and that is why we are part of this great site to look,chat,meet,make friends and even make comitments to be with others no matter under what position that may be.
But if just approached from some where out of the blue then we would begin to look at where the slave has found out about us and got our contact details.

And really, the pool locally isn't THAT dry, why put yourself through all that worry and stress when there's plenty to choose from already?

I wouldn't use having a collarme profile as a "high watermark" to speak for someone's integrity. There are a lot of good, real people on collarme, but there are just as many fakers, and probably a good number of scam artists as well. Regardless of the avenue where you met them if it is someone physically far away from you, it will be expensive for a real-time relationship, whether it is completely above board, or whether it is a scam. For example, arranging travel, lodging, necessary government documentation, food, etc. That person should be secure enough in their financial situation to support such as relationship on their own, as should the person that is being solicited for a relationship. I would think that anyone that is tooooo eager, or does not want to spend THEIR money to meet with you would be a person to be avoided. At a bare minimum, you're setting a tone to the relationship whereby that person has an expectation of a free ride, and at worst, you're just being had.

If it is their intent to stay in the USA, they have to get a work visa or marry a US citizen. Otherwise they can only stay 6 months at a time.

You can avoid headaches by letting them find their own way to get a Visa to stay here permanently. They will have to find a job, a sponsor company, or make some arrangements in their current profession.

Actually, from a coworker's experience, even marrying a US citizen is not a guarantee that they will be allowed to stay in the country.

There is a lot of work involved in being allowed to stay in the US if you are not a citizen (unless there is a lot of illegal activity - fake papers, hiding, etc.), which is why we excluded anyone who wasn't at least already permanently in the US legally during our search, and we wanted citizens.

This is absolutely true and I'm glad you brought it up. My husband is Canadian, and we thought there would be limited red tape getting him a Green Card after we got married. He was a college graduate with a clean record, why wouldn't a legitimate marriage to a US citizen be enough? We still got an immigration attorney to deal with it all, and it was a total hassle. He could not work legally here for almost a year, and also could not go visit his family in Canada even though we were married -- he would not be allowed back into the US if he did that, because of the time it takes for the INS to complete their paperwork and for us to complete the interview to prove it was not a marriage of convenience.

It isn't something to be taken lightly. I can't imagine the hassles that would exist if it was more complicated than our situation.

Just a quick note from a new poster.

I know of several failed attempts to do this, failure being measured by the following examples.
1) Not able to bring them in.
2) They stay long enough to find a bleeding heart to “rescue” them (which brings it’s own trouble, and that I will not go into here).
3) They just up and leave when they have become “Americanized”

I know it is hard at times to find one here, I have been looking to add a sister to my slave for 12 months now, but I am pretty sure that I will find one here and it will have been worth the wait. Nothing hurts more then to get bonded to someone who is just looking for a way out.

It's easy to just come here illegally and work. Millions of people south of the border are in the US illegally, and no one cares. Just get a fake social security number and you are home free. The government is under instructions from employers to not investigate. I work in an area that is very familiar with this.

You just need someone sympathetic to live with. No problem at all. Just keep a low profile.

And then wait for an amnesty.

On the other hand, make it simple and choose your mate from one of the 300 million US residents here legally.

Perhaps the pool is that dry and perhaps our tastes may not run to what the pool offers. Certainly you considered that prior to your posting :)

Considering we're in the same "pool" geographically absolutely I did. All I can tell you is that the local scene is flourishing with poly people who have tons of healthy open relationships, and new people all the time.

I have found Lawers tend to get nervous about questions like that, especially if the BDSM lifestyle is mentioned. I presently reside in Germany and have worked at a Consulate. This may be a better place to ask as they have the law right under their noses. I recomend the local US Consulate section "I.N.S." (Immagration and Naturalation Service). I do not recomend that BDSM is mentioned.
