As I'm new to the scene, I'm not sure how to go about finding a Mistress or Master in or around my area. What would be the best way going about doing so? What should I look for or watch out for in people, and how would I meet them?

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated.

As to why you asked the question in the Health/Saftey section of the message boards is beyond me but I've seen stranger things. Are you asking for a Healthy Safe place to scene at? The Gym isn't a bad place to start.

So you're 19 and in LA. Well MercNbeth live in the area and I'm sure they can help you better than I can. Other than that you can send messages to ppl in you area asking about clubs and munches.
If you still aren't having any luck start going to the LA sex shops to ask owners for info and keep an eye out for fliers.
Don't forget to go to use Yahoo search and type in Los Angeles BDSM. That might get you somewheres as well.

Here's a link for you. The Lady that runs this Yahoo group is fantastic!! She lists ALL kinds of events, and munches in your area, and for a ways aorund actually.
I wish you all the luck!! The Lair in Hollywood, holds some great classes, and a fantastic dungeon. When you are ready for that. You must be a member, but well worth it.

Someone already gave you Lady Badger's list. It is the best comprehensive local events listing. It can be daunting for a newcomer looking at it since it is so much information in one place, but don't worry as that feeling soon fades.

Now the bad news... a lot of the local community is 21+. I don't know if all of the events at the Lair are 21 and over, but the main ones, Conquest, Venus and Insight are. Since you can only join the Lair at an Insight event, this means you can't join until you are 21. I do not know about being a guest at other events than mentioned. Threshold is also 21+. One event that I know is 18+ is the Carnavale De Sade at Passive Arts. There is also a munch group that is 18+, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/genx_munch/
