I was busy in the late 90's and early into the new decade. I was a new mom and thus any spare time was for sleep. Rare uninterrupted tv time was reserved for X files (It was much better in the early years, but I just couldn't give it up even towards then end), that crazy new cartoon South Park, or the occassional Ally McBeal. The Internet took precedence over tv and I routinely allowed my husband control of the channel surfing. Somehow I missed the whole Buffy craze. I remember turning my nose up at the movie in theaters and opting for Reservoir Dogs instead.

Now I have 400 channels, the HBO and Showtimes series, and my very own remote control. I have returned to tv watching as a leisure activity. Still, I seemed to never be able to coordinate myself so I broke down and got the Cox DVR. I am ashamed and yet enthralled. At the prodding of a friend I set it up to record the Buffy series in reruns. Now I am hooked. Sure, episodes are out of order, I am missing back story and I can't even figure out all the Angel references. Unraveling it just adds to the appeal.

Now I am wondering what other amusing and addicitive series I have missed out on. Any suggestions?

In addition to Buffy, there was Charmed ( if you go in for that sort of stuff...witches etc ...kind of quirky, but fun to watch to all the same ); ER (if you go in for the medical drama kind...the last three seasons were not all that great, but up to then, well worth watching ); Home Improvement ( if you like Tim Allen and are looking for cheap laughs ); Lost ( this is a fairly new series though, but well worth watching IF you can start with the 1st episode up to current );

trying to think of any others lol...

Project Runway, Firefly, Good Eats and House.

I don't watch much TV really, but what I do watch I'm obsessive over.

The boyfriend loves the Discovery Urban Myths show and the local partner loves Veronica Mars but I haven't really found them awesome.

Oh and if you come visit, I have the entire Buffy Chosen collection :)

Arrested Development.

I don't watch much TV, so a friend of mine had to recommend it. I got both seasons on DVD and it's absolutely hysterical. I think it's still on so you can probably catch new episodes on your DVR.

Fire Fly was a cool series. But my favorite science fiction series of all time & my recommendation is Babylon 5. The show was awesome & it had some of the best writers ever to work on a tv show.

Ooo yeah, I used to watch Babylon 5. They did not make many episodes, did they?

Thanks for the suggestions all. My current must-sees are The L Word, House, and I have recently got into Sleeper Cell. And of course, the Sopranos begins soon. Hmm, I suddenly feel like a liar because I typically state I don't watch much tv.

About a month ago a friend made me watch Underworld and Serenity and I sort of looked for Firefly. It is not currently airing though, at least not on any of my 400 channels. I hope I don't have to renew my Netflix membership over this.

Tross, if I visit you I think we might be too occupied to watch Buffy the whole time. What with visits to Coldstone and all. ;)

(See, I am trying out a new nickname. LA just isn't working for me -- too flashy and California sounding. Lucky reminds me of a dog. Tross. Hmm, I think I could get used to that.)

LOL Firefly was on Sci-Fi for awhile, and then on In Demand, not sure if it's actively being shown now or not. It's certainly on DVD!

I'm sure it's Coldstone that will be taking all of our time...strawberry blondes are hard to resist.

They finished the whole five seasons that where orgionaly envisaged. Though for a time they thought they would only get funding for four so wound quite a few of the storylines up by the end of that season. The fifth has some high points but suffered a bit as a result.

I would give the films a MISS! The only one worth watching is "In the Beginning" the rest are utterly dire... IMO at least

You might want to look up 'Alias' to add to your must see series list. Think Laura Croft meets Mission impossible with a side order of X-files. Rather fun

It was only on for two summer seasons on TNT but I loved the "Witchblade" series for both its strong female character, the Ds relationships between different characters, and the weird time manipulation idea that the second season was the first season replayed because of one decision the Witchblade allowed Sara to make over.

I haven't seen it rerun again nor do I think its out on DVD yet. I tape the two seasons myself.

I recently discovered "Family Guy", it's hysterical. I'm already looking into the boxed sets so I can catch up!

Damn, I seem to have just seen the series finale. I better save that one.

I do like Family Guy and will try some of the other suggestions as well. Alias and Witchblade especially sound good.

The Shield on FX. That is one of the best cop shops that I have ever seen. But I would pick it up on DVD and start from season one. Everything starts there.

24 is addictive as well.

Those are currently my two favorite shows. That episode of The Shield last night was awesome.
