ORIGINAL: LadyPain OK heres a topic that is real life to Our family. PainMaster and Our new addition to Our family suffer from COPD which can be a debilitating disease. This is a new issue with Us and seek advice from anyoone that can offer it. With as many medical people in Our lifestyle I feel comforted and therefore need to ask. Master was put on oxygen last month and it scares Me not knowing what I should do if He has another attack. Tonight I called 911 when He had a coughing spell and passed out for a few seconds but all was well when they got here to check Him out. I can't tell you how to make him better. I can tell you what makes me feel better when I am afraid or feeling powerless. I get proactive and learn as much as I can. Now, I'm familiar with COPD, but not well enough to advise you in that regard and hope others will be along that can. In your situation I would read everything I could get my hands on, if there are message boards or communities I'd read those, too; but my primary focus would be to get a medical understanding of what is happening to him. Then I'd make sure my emergency first aid skills (including CPR and the use of an AED) were so spot on as to be able to do them in my sleep. Then I'd try to find someone who can give me ideas of what to expect with varying degrees of 'the worst' and get plans in my head about how to handle those situations. Create your confidence in your ability to properly handle this situation, be proactive and learn (much the same as asking about it here). There is power in learning, especially in situations like this. Ever consider becoming a respiratory therapist? Build your knowledge base and skills from which to draw in times of crisis. This is how I handle situations that I feel powerless in, I look for my power and build it. I suppose I could romanticize it for you and talk about how your building power that you can inevitably give to your master in caring for him when it's needed is a quintessential act of submission, but I'll leave that for you to decide. Good luck to you with it.
