An executive was in a quandary. He had to get rid of one
of his staff. He had narrowed it down to one of two
people, Debra or Jack. It would be a hard decision to
make, as they were equally qualified and both did
excellent work. He finally decided that in the morning
whichever one used the water cooler first would have to
go.

Debra came in the next morning, hugely hung-over after
partying all night. She went to the cooler to get some
water to take an aspirin and the executive approached her
and said: "Debra, I've never done this before, but I have
to lay you or Jack off."

Debra replied, "Could you jack off? I feel like shit."

Aside from using the water cooler use as a method of firing that was quite amusing.

What was wrong with using the water cooler as a decision determinant, Ma'am ? Why do You think executives have executive toys on their desks and all around their office ? They have to make a number of arbitrary decisions like that every working day. Decisions such as: "If I roll Yahzee I'll sell my entire Enron stock, otherwise I'll have Jenkins think up another good way to stick the cost to the entire state of California." Would You feel any better, Ma'am, if the executive in this anecdote had used his Newton's Cradle instead of the water cooler in order to determine whether to lay her or Jack off ?

I understand that for a joke it makes little difference what the person uses... but I was in a bit of a serious mood when I read it.

I thought to myself that using the use of a water cooler as an indicator of who ought to be sacked (no pun intended) was perfectly ridiculous. I would think that giving them both a task and a deadline would be a better way to gauge who would be more useful to the company and therefore kept on the payroll.

Again, it was a joke and therefore not meant to be taken as seriously as I took it. Such is life I suppose. I could have gone into even more detail, pondering why one would need to be fired and not both? Why not fire a lackey who did something that one or both could have done and therefore keep both valuable assets? Why not bring them both in and say that cuts in pay were necessary to keep them both on at the same time and see what sort of plausible conclusions could be made.

I was doing some research about incorporation while surfing the boards so I was in a more analytical mindset. I could have turned that part of myself off when entering the humor forum but it didn’t occur to me to do so.

Personally, Ma'am, sissy thinks that all their fellow employees should have had to vote which one was canned ... hmmm ... perhaps sissy has been watching too many of his old taped copies of Survivor ?

Perhaps so. I'm thinking that must have been a joke as well though - right? Ah! I'm catching on.

Otherwise it would be terribly irresponsible and hurtful to both valued employees.
