I am looking at a trip in the near future and would like to take some of my personal "equipment" with me. I will be travelling by air and have a question about packing my items.
I am aware that carry on luggage is under much higher scrutiny now because of terror threats, and I was wondering if the same applies to checked luggage.
Does anyone know?

snmsub,
Your checked bags will also be opened and checked. How thoroughly depends on the airport and the person doing the checking. Then you can win the "lottery" and be picked for a complete screening and baggage search. However, as much as some in Government would like to change it, BDSM equipment and bondage gear is NOT illegal. In the worst case some asshole will hold up your flogger and ask what you plan on doing with it. If so answer as I do; "Bend over and I'll demo".

Just be sure to remove the batteries becuase a buzzing sound might set off a bomb alert.

Lol proudsub, a few years ago I was flying to see my parents and took a "cock-a-doodle doo" alarm clock with me. I left the batteries in it, and put it in the overhead bin. Somebody must have pushed the set alarm button. On the descent (me strapped into my seat) the alarm goes off and all you can hear through the whole plane is "COCK-A-DOODLE DOO".. it went on for fifteen minutes until we landed and the passengers were all killing themselves laughing!
